Revolution Skin Silk foundation?

Can anyone recommend this? Or something else that might suit? I’m in the market for a new foundation, have used No 7 Hydraluminous for years but feeling a bit meh about it these days. 48 year old normal skin, on dry side rather than oily. I don’t like foundation to be heavily perfumed and I’m fairly low key, I don’t like a heavy, obvious finish.

Hated it. It smelled strong and unpleasant and was almost slimey with the amount of glycerin, silicone and other glowy serum stuff in it. Didn’t last on me, either. It went in the bin.

Good colour range with different undertones though, so if it suits you I would expect you’d find a good match.

Hmm that doesn’t sound like something I would like!

Im ten years older, i hate the smell and feel of foundations and BBs etc, I used to use a mineral foundation - bare minerals etc. But now Im wearing Laura Geller. Baked Balance and brighten is so lightweight you dont know you are wearing it, it is light to medium coverage , I use very little and Ive creases, lines and red bits. Its not for everyone, you do need to moisturise and use a primer, but I can put my face on in minutes

Thanks. My skin tends to react to primers, I guess it’s all the silicone.

I wasn't impressed with it. I have recently discovered Max Factor facefinity, the compact powder. Quick swish with a buffing brush and I look more put together. I'm 50+ and finding less is more but still want some coverage.

I quite like it, it does have a really good range of shades PP are right

But also you do have to be careful with what you have underneath in terms of skin care. It's more a 'one and done' type thing as far as I can gather so sometimes it sits on top and doesn't blend.

I don't think it's a really a foundation, more a bb cream tbh in terms of coverage.

If you like hydraluminous the moisturiser in the range is nice.

What's your budget?

There are a zillion other better choices than Revolution. It's crap. Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

Most drugstore brands have some version of a skin tint out there right now, it's the in thing.

If you're going pricey - Nars tinted moisturiser is excellent.

Budget is flexible. I used Nars for years, and Laura Mercier. Hydraluminous took over after LM changed their formula. I’ve tried loads over the years. Stuff like EL and MAC are too heavy, formulated and perfumed, MAC wrecked my skin. I used Clinique Even Better foundation back in the day but that feels quite retro now. Tried Bare Minerals, too dry and itchy, Lily Lolo etc.

Have a look at cult beauty.

The market is flooded with some glorious tints.

A good one is Lisa Eldridges - it's pricey though but need two drops.

I'm wearing Merit today and meh... it's ok, i like the idea but it's not the best in terms of how it turns out.

Hourglass have got a pretty new skin tint on the market - nice reviews on that one.

If your'e feeling absolutely flush then Chantecaille do a pretty good one although to be honest I wouldn't waste money on it again, my skin isn't dry though, it's combo and it was too much for me. Nice though.

arinya · 18/07/2024 16:53

Doesn’t necessarily need to be a skin tint type. Just something that looks fresh, doesn’t transfer easily and isn’t thick or patchy.

Take a look at Saie Super Glowy Skin Foundation.

Hourglass soft glow foundation

By Terry CC Foundation

ROSE INC foundation

RMS Beauty foundation

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation is a no frills that I always go back to

It can be difficult becuase these things are so personal and everyone is different but those are a few of the newer ones bar the Bobbi Brown one which is an old faithful.

smooththecat · 18/07/2024 18:23

Have a look at maybelline super stay skin tint

arinya · 18/07/2024 20:04

I used to wear the Bobbi Brown! Thought it was discontinued eventually though?
