Can anyone help me work out which ‘season’ colouring I am

Because every quiz I do gives me a different answer but I’d be interested to know to explore make up shades and maybe try some new colour combinations that might work well on me.

I’ve got mid brown hair, with a warm undertone (was a redheaded toddler), light (quite striking) blue eyes, my skin tans quite easily and is more olive than pink but not dark. My skin, hair, eyes are medium contrast, they used to be higher contrast.

I’m a mishmash of backgrounds. Southern French (but not Mediterranean looking) mother, Anglo Irish-Lithuanian (ethnically Ashkenazi Jewish) father.

The colour that I always get compliments on is a deep cornflower blue. I think I also suit navy, mid blue, cobalt, cream, warm brown and look best in deep but not too bright colours.

DD and I were trying to work out my colouring from online quizzes and I’ve come out so far as variants of all four seasons!

Any ideas of what palette I might be closest to? Or even just different clothes/ make up colours I could try based on my (odd!) colouring.

I think you need to post a photo to be honest.

I had my colours done professionally, a long time ago, and even then they couldn't decide 100% what I was!

You can try to do what they do at home- get different scarves or fabric and hold them to your face (under your neckline) to see which looks the best.

Just as an example, I look tired and dull in yellowy/olive green but better in blue teal greens.

I look awful in mustard and dirty yellow but ok in light yellow.

Spring. Blue eyes, reddish tint to hair, warm skin tone is typical of a spring season. There are subtle variations within that but basically it is clear bright colours like coral pink, cobalt blue, gold jewellery. Ivory, as a pale neutral, looks better than white, for example. See if you can find a copy of " Colour me beautiful". It is an old book, but very well written and photographed.

Style Me Happy does remote colour consultations for a very competitive price and has a lovely supportive Facebook group. Sorry I've no idea what you might be, I'm rubbish at guessing!!

Dollyparot200 · 15/07/2024 17:29

I Googled if I suit white what other colours will suit me and got my answer that way

LoobyDoop2 · 15/07/2024 19:43

I agree with tissueboxandcandles, you sound like some kind of Spring to me, based on the striking blue eyes and olive skin.

gardenmusic · 16/07/2024 14:03

I know what you mean, I come up as everything except Autumn.
I, too, think you are a 'spring'. A light -ish, fresh -ish spring if there is such a thing?

In life before dc I was a colour analyst. So I can usually make a guess.

gardenmusic · 16/07/2024 15:59

tissueboxandcandles,
Please say if you would rather not, but would you take a guess at me, please?
Black hair, with a bit of grey, boiled gooseberry eyes with a fleck of yellow and fair skin. I am a dead ringer for Snow White.
I get compliments when I wear pale grey, fuchsia or bright purple. Beige kills me.

SoulMole · 16/07/2024 16:02

Chat gpt will tell you if you add pics

SnapdragonToadflax · 16/07/2024 16:04

You're probably spring or autumn, but very difficult to tell without seeing you.

Definitely have a look at Style Me Happy on Facebook, it's a nice group and a pleasant way to waste some time of an evening 😂 The consultations are very much in demand but good value. I'd always assumed I was a winter but am actually deep autumn, and it makes perfect sense now why some winter colours don't suit me.

Garlicnaan · 16/07/2024 16:17

I'd say a clear Spring.

I am a spring, but have quite neutral undertones so can also wear some light summer colours. It may be that you're similar.

Take it all with a pinch of salt anyway.

The fact that people have all suggested wildly different seasons is proof that this whole thing is bollocks, right? What colours do you like OP? What are your favourite colours? Wear them.

gardenmusic · 16/07/2024 16:21

Thing is, Garlicnaan, I feel better when I am wearing the 'right' colours.
I think it gives you a little boost to know that you are wearing something you feel good in.
Mostly, it's rolled up jeans and a T shirt, but when I am going somewhere I like to feel confident.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 16/07/2024 16:22

You sound Spring-y.

It's not bollocks. Some people clearly suit a small range of colours, but some could choose from most seasons.
The season thing is just a way of grouping the ranges - you could call it A,B,C,D, and it would be the same thing. Like 'you look better in the brighter range of group B'.
My favourite colours are yellow and black, but I know they do not suit me - I look ill if I wear them.
This is the style and beauty thread, and people are interested.

Thank you, I must admit I am drawn to the brighter winter colours.

spikeandbuffy · 16/07/2024 16:29

I posted mine in a group once and had everything from blue autumn to light spring
I'm a redhead, green eyes, pale skin but cool undertone. Look sick in pastels, orange, yellows
Warm/yellow tone foundation makes me look jaundiced

malakkalakka · 16/07/2024 16:31

'Looking better' is wildly subjective. There isn't any definitive way to look better to yourself or other people. There are no right or wrong colours. This is some more image bullshit I had really hoped that we had rejected.

No wrong colours.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 16/07/2024 16:31

ChatGPT is rubbish, it just takes a pixel and analyses from that, rather than taking a holistic view. AI isn't a very good way to do it.

Nor are those digital drape things or apps where you can stick your face in a ring of 'seasonal' shades. You need to see how your face reacts in natural light to certain colours (do you look more sallow, more pink, do your eyes look brighter, do you look more groomed, do you see the colours of the clothes first or your features?). Cameras adjust the white balance and brightness too, so it's not easy to do online either.

I think seasons 'stylists' cost a bloody fortune, utter madness. However, the reality is that I look tonnes better in the colours that suit me than the ones that don't (anything pastelly, black, white, cool colours). I don't dress in my colours all the time though, it can look a bit dated and 1980's "Maureen from number 83 had her colours done" / Pru Leith but I do always have them in the back of my mind when I shop and gravitate towards shades that flatter rather than fight my natural colouring.

Sorry my Spring-y was for the OP. Classic Snow White is a winter through and through. Textbook

gardenmusic · 16/07/2024 16:36

malakkalakka, We will have to agree to differ. Most people buy clothes that suit them, in a colour that looks good on them.
By all means reject this, you have every right to wear whatever you like.

And OP, many many apologies for hijacking your thread!

gardenmusic · 16/07/2024 16:36

Off to google classic winter!
Many thanks.

I beg to differ. I am all for people wearing whatever they like, but the effect on appearance of the right versus the wrong colour is obvious. More so the older you get. Once you see it your can't unsee it.
