Smart-casual naming ceremony/christening

What do I wear to the above occasion? Its in a church but is apparently not a full religious ceremony, making it a little unclear what kind of gift or card is appropriate, and now the dress code is also a mixture of smart and casual.

Its likely to be raining and there will be some walking, but feeling a little lost as to where to start with an outfit, so any advice would be great.

But you give no clues about yourself?

Size, style, budget??

It would seem sensible (if you’re buying something new) to choose something that fits into your wardrobe, as no ‘occasion’ dressing is necessary.

I’d probably choose a trouser suit.

As for a gift - it’s not the child’s fault they’re not getting a full scale christening. They still deserve a fabulous book - probably from the Folio Society.

Unless you’re making a significant gift of £££?

Imagine you are going to afternoon tea at a nice hotel. What would you wear? Seems midi length floral dresses are in.

Thanks, this looks like a good balance

I didn't think clues about myself would be that relevant to the style or level of formality required and would be happy for general suggestions.

Don't necessarily need to budget to buy anything either, as I do have clothes. Just considering whats still classed as smart but not wedding or job interview and casual but not jeans or beach holiday.

Of course not the child"s fault, and nobody's really. Just don't want to be too traditional if thats not what they are going for, but still want to mark the occasion properly.

It varies from family to family! It's going to be the official c of e naming /welcoming ceremony for parents who choose not to baptise an infants (letting them decide as young adults) if in an Anglican Church, no different from a baptism for the congregation really
