Bras where the underwire doesn’t eventually come out?

FTCU · 14/07/2024 14:24

I’m a size 40 F. I get different types of bras that are usually from M&S but within 3/4 months, the underwire will start to come out on one of the bra cups. I’m starting to get so annoyed about this and wondered where else I should try and get my bras from.

Any suggestions of underwire bras that DON’T start to come out? Or does this happen to everyone

Are you hand washing them or machine washing? Machine washing (even on a handwash cycle) wears down the fabric quicker and is a significant factor in whether wires come out. It can of course happen sometimes even if you're hand washing properly but it is less common. It can also happen by wearing too small a cup (usually alongside too big a band) as pressure is put on the centre of the bra causing the wire to pop through. I'd put money on one or both of those things being the reason though. I'd also put money on you wearing the wrong size if it's M&S especially if they measured you with a measuring tape. Try Boob or Bust, Bravissimo etc and try hand washing future purchases. Signed- an ex bra fitter with a wealth of experience in this.

In a 34 HH and wear Bravissimo Sateen and this had never happened. For comfort I also wear sugar candy non wired which are super comfy.

BusterGonad · 14/07/2024 14:48

I've ony had the wire come out once, it is because you are wearing the wrong size.

JC03745 · 14/07/2024 14:52

I have M&S wild blooms bras and never had a problem with the wire coming out. I'm an H cup! I know you are supposed to hand wash or put them into a little lingerie wash bag, but I just throw them in the regular wash- still, never had an issue.

Thejackrussellsrule · 14/07/2024 15:13

I'm going to guess that your bra size is incorrect for this to keep happening, get measured properly as this shouldn't be happening.

Wash in a laundry bag so they don't get damaged.

I'm a 38E, I always wear M & S and have never had a wire come out.

FTCU · 14/07/2024 15:22

If the underwire coming out indicates an incorrect bra size, does that mean the size is too big or too small? I’ve been measured in two different department stores and the size was the same. Where is a good place in SW London to get measured?

I'm going to hazard a guess band too big, cup too small

BusterGonad · 14/07/2024 15:29

What clothes size are you?

FTCU · 14/07/2024 15:30

Size 24!

This happens to me too. I don’t think it’s a size thing. I buy Bravissimo sateen too and have them fitted, and they do fit well, but I wear them to death and chuck them in the washing machine.

Im on the hunt for a great non wired bra to get around this, then I can keep the wired ones for when I’m wearing a dress that needs them.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 14/07/2024 15:35

If you put a wired bra in the washing machine, the wire will eventually come out.

Nosummerontheagenda · 14/07/2024 15:38

I agree. It happens to all mine eventually. I wash them in a bag on a delicates cycle.

Thank you for this!

This happens to all my bras and I figured it was just because I buy cheap ones. Just measured myself and used an online calculator - apparently I should be wearing 30E and not the 34C I usually buy.

30E will be harder to find cheaply, I expect!

Carebearsonmybed · 14/07/2024 15:41

You are supposed to replace bras every 3 months, but who does??

FTCU · 14/07/2024 15:41

Yes, my bras also fit quite well so it could be the fact that I chuck them in the washing machine that isn’t helping.

@TemporalMechanic can I ask what site you used to measure yourself please? I’d like to have a look

Try this.

@FTCU I used this one, hope it's helpful!

Remember the front gore is suppose rest flat on your chest, not lifted. A properly fitting bra does give you a bit of back fat above and below the back band. I'm currently wearing the wrong size bra as I don't live in the UK and it's the best fit I can get. I've gone up in the band. The cups are slightly too small but it is comfy and doesn't notice under clothes. Obviously not idea. I hand wash my wired bras and wash my non wired in a liitle delicates bag,.

Gettingbysomehow · 14/07/2024 16:03

I just cannot wear underwired bras. They are too uncomfortable and never feel right. I buy non wired very supportive bras from the likes of Triumph and Miss Mary of Sweden all of which give a great shape. I've also been known to wear good old Doreen in winter under jumpers. That bra gives you a fantastic shape and no wires.....bilateral torpedoes!!

Happydays321 · 14/07/2024 16:22

I buy fantasise underwired bras, I was measured in John Lewis Kingston and they recommended this brand for me.
I've quite a few and wash them all on a delicates cycle in the machine, not in a bag. I've never had a wire come out.

FTCU · 14/07/2024 16:41

Thank you guys, I’ll measure and see what size I come up with!

KnittedCardi · 14/07/2024 16:43

Never had a wire come out, but then I hand wash them. They last me years. The lace will go first for me.

ConfusedKoala13 · 14/07/2024 16:44

I don't know but following with interest as I think I must be buying the same M&S bras as you because I never used to label this problem and in the last year it's happened about 4 times.

Dilbertian · 14/07/2024 19:52

How are you washing them? I always machine wash my bras and damage resulting from that is vanishingly rare. They go in a regular mixed load, never something heavy like torques or denims, and always bagged in a small bag. Never more than 2-3 bras per bag. The only times I've ever had wires come out on bras that were less a couple of years old have been when dh put them in a washes without first bagging them.
