A completely metal / plastic free bra for a bigger bust

Hey I’d really appreciate your help as I’m drawing a blank so far.

I have some hospital investigations coming up (MRI, XRay, CT scan) & due to past trauma, I don’t feel comfortable going in without a bra so I need to find one that is completely metal / plastic free. There are lots of underwire free bras out there but so many have metal / plastic hook fastenings, clasps & adjuster rings.

I’m a 34DD so need some support / help fighting gravity (appreciate this will be limited without underwire) but so far I’ve only found bras that aren’t suitable for bigger busts (according to reviews) or they have metal / plastic hook closures on the back.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I’m going through a bit of a rough time right now so any help would be appreciated!

What about the racer back/crop top sports bras? They’re quite comfy with some support.

Molke

All the best.

Molke?

sanityisamyth · 13/07/2024 18:47

Are you sure you're a DD though as that isn't huge. Have you tried the boob or bust method?

RantyMcRanterton · 13/07/2024 18:47

The molke ones are a bit tricky to get in and out of, I would hesitate to recc in case there are health issues/some forced enfeeblement coming up.

Fizzadora · 13/07/2024 18:51

If it's just for your scan appointments, you really don't need a decent bra, just one of those pull on things that you can get for less than a fiver at a cheap shop to cover you up or even just a snug fitting vest top.
No one, and I mean absolutely no one will be looking at how low your boobs are hanging.

LudoCallTheRocks · 13/07/2024 19:12

Racer backs - the actual sports bras would be ideal but come with metal hook fastenings unfortunately (at least that I’ve found) & normal crop tops don’t really have any support.

Molke & M&S - thank you I’ll check them out & noted about getting in & out of the Molke bras.

Bra size - I have a life limiting illness so I’ve spent many years dropping a serious amount of weight and then ballooning up with treatment (steroids) so all the yo-yoing has taken it’s toll on my bust. I’m definitely a DD right now which I appreciate isn’t that big but they’re not a normal pair of DD’s if that makes sense so I definitely need a bit more help getting them to sit in one place.

Scans - yeah I appreciate no one will care what I look like (they’ve seen it all before anyway) but the need to find a decent bra is more trauma related than anything else if I’m honest. I’ve not long ago had a colonoscopy which has brought back past trauma so it’s really about feeling like I’m secure & contained rather than vanity which I know might sound silly.

Thanks for your help everyone!

Sports direct Lonsdale? Good support and plenty of sizes.

sanityisamyth · 13/07/2024 19:19

That's good you definitely know your size. At least DD is easier to get hold of! Molke are definitely tricky to get in and out of but good once they're on. I've just bought one so only had it a week or so so still getting used to mine!

R41nb0wR0se · 13/07/2024 19:43

I love in Molke. I wear their originals for work, but often wear the epic racerbacks otherwise (much easier to get on and off, keep everything contained, just don't give quite as good a shape)

SalGoodwoman · 13/07/2024 19:44

How about a vest top with built-in support? I've recently needed some x-rays and even my sports bra had metal strap adjusters which got in the way of the x-ray.

Zara has some wide strap vest tops, around a tenner/fifteen quid maybe? I am favouring Uniqlo's built-in support bra tops at the moment, many styles and colours but only good if you've got a branch near you or know your size with confidence. (FWIW I'm 32EE and wear L in both Zara and Uniqlo for these tops.)

SirVixofVixHall · 13/07/2024 19:47

M&S do fuller cup bralettes, so no back hooks. They do have strap adjusters, these are plastic, but you could cut the strap, take them out and restitch the strap to the length you need instead, easy on a sewing machine, a five minute job, but not that much hassle to do by hand either.

CocoapuffPuff · 13/07/2024 19:48

Can you get a non wired bra and have a "handy with a sewing machine" friend replace the hooks and eyes with velcro and remove the strap adjusters, just sewing them to the right length? It doesn't have to be pretty, just functional.

Shybutrude · 13/07/2024 19:48

@LudoCallTheRocks great username!
I've got bigger boobs but when I'm at hospital I use the M+S ones that ranty recommended, soft smooth and very very stretchy ( deffo wouldn't run for a bus in it tho!)

Mydahliasareshit · 13/07/2024 19:51

Cosabella and Boody are my suppliers of late.

HashtagShitShop · 13/07/2024 20:03

My mum struggles wearing bras full stop due to a weakness on her right hand side but finds she can tolerate the racer back bras from Asda (hers are eeyore, I just looked at the website and they don't seem to be there in that style for adults at the moment but they could be Instore or restock before your next appointment or there's vinted etc for new ones ) They're not the most supportive I admit but they help her and they are pure cotton.

Mrsredlipstick · 13/07/2024 20:20

I bought these and I'm very busty (J cup) . I too need medical appointments and have very little arm strength. I thought they'd be rubbish, they are better than the big bloomers one at five times the price.

I wear M&S Flexifit crop top, I am a 36E and it offers some support, I am not saying it lifts them right up but it is a comfy crop top.

Molke or reign studio
I've worn both for MRI scans before

Orchidacea · 13/07/2024 22:11

Wonder if this Uniqlo Bra Top would work for you. Looks like it's just fabric.

Happy to post as I've shared this before
Molke bra on me at a 34K (just had an operation hence the armpit dressing!)

I wore it for an MRI last week

I'm just popping in to say NOT Bravissimo. I bought 2 wireless styles which I thought seemed quite surprisingly supportive but they both had the shoulder strap seams right at the top of the shoulder, really painful after a few hours.

Molke look interesting, I don't see how they can be supportive? But it's free returns so I'll order and try. Thanks for the suggestion.

These look good, struggling to understand the sizing though
