Conditioner advice

I am growing my hair. It’s almost shoulder length now. Hate washing it though. It always seems to get knots and tuggy. I use Aussie brand shampoo etc. sometimes switch things around depending on what’s on offer at the supermarket.

I was given an almost empty bottle of Kerastase conditioner to use and oh my, brushing my hair was like a knife through butter. Sadly, I cannot afford this myself.

Has anyone got any good recommendations for a conditioner please? May be my hair just doesn’t like Aussie or has just welcomed the change to Kerastase?

Check out allbeauty.com which is about 20% cheaper for Kerastase...

L'Oréal Elvive Dream Lengths is good (in my experience). And much much much cheaper still ... Often on offer in Boots as well

I don't speak for myself, but my dd as she has long hair which knots quite a bit.

All I will say is that Tresemme for her is better than most of the expensive conditioners she has tried (Pureology, L"Oreal, Paul Mitchell etc etc). The botanicals one with coconut milk.

I do think that there is range that just works on certain hair, and maybe it is a case of just having to find that one. But if you see a sample size bottle of this, perhaps just try it without the expense of the huge bottle.

My hair does not like Kerastase, it is fine for a wash or two, but after that is says nah.... My wallet is relieved.

Waitrose do a range called Pure, the conditioner is great and not expensive.

Have you tried conditioner bars. I can recommend Ethique. Very economical and last for ages. They condition and untangle well and make hair feel lovely and soft.

Try the bed head tigi range from home bargains/Amazon/b &M kind of stores. Brilliant both shampoo and conditioner.

Deep conditioner/hair masks are good - Omo is super.

I too know the devastation of finding out that Kerastase is every bit as bloody good as its made out to be! I've tried nearly every shampoo and conditioner on the market and sadly nothing comes even close for me.

So I'd recommend Garnier Hair Food conditioner - the massive tub, not the bottle. You often get deals on at Boots and Superdrug for these. Use it every time you wash and then sit with it on for 10 minutes every week or so to let it really permeate. I personally get on with this a lot better than the Aussie 3 minute miracle stuff.

However I cannot stress enough how life changing a leave in conditioner or hair oil is, squeeze excess water out of your hair, add an oil or leave in conditioner and if you add in using a Tangle Teaser on top of that (or a knock off) you are golden!

The ones I've tried are a bit more of an outlay, but they last a lot longer than a bottle of conditioner does, and I figure that spending 20-30 quid every 6 - 12 months is better than spending £50 on the kerastase shampoo&conditioner every 3 months)

Ones I've tried and loved:

  • Schwarzkopf spray conditioner (£15 on amazon)
  • Kerastase Elixir Ultime hair oil (£22 on Lookfantastic currently, lasts ages - I bought a giant 100ml bottle on Vinted for £25 delivered and it lasted me an entire year)
  • Kerastase Genesis Defense Thermique (this is the holy grail for me, I can use the worst shampoo and conditioner on earth but then add this before drying and it makes my hair so soft. You can get it for £25 on Amazon but again, it lasts AGES)
You could also look on Vinted for these, just check the sellers reviews first before buying.

I also know people who really rate Tresemme, and I've just checked and they do a hair oil and a serum, so maybe one of those is worth trying?
