Wedding accessory time - guest

Hi, some of you may remember helping me with thinking about an outfit and moaning about my sister late last year, when I was miserable that she didn't pick me as her bridesmaid because I'm the wrong shape and size.

Well, I am now seeking more of the same help.

I have a skirt:-
www.annharveyfashion.co.uk/product.php?pageNum_rs_categories=0&totalRows_rs_categories=18&cat=Skirts &id=83243382

and a blouse

and a fascinator, choice of either cream or black:-
www.next.co.uk/shot.asp?b=X41&p=94&s=4&n=Women&pid=351-939-X41&extra=sch&exclude=00F00&ref=http%3a%2 f%2fsearch%2enext%2eco%2euk%2fsearch%3fp%3dQ%26ts%3dv3%26w%3dfascinator%26srid%3dS5%2d3%26lbc%3dnext %26af%3d%26cnt%3d%26images%3don%26srt%3d%26isort%3dscore%26method%3dand%26format%3d%26nb%3d%26np%3d

but am after shoes, bag and general accessories.

Question - Do I have to have the same colour shoes and bag? I'll probably go for black shoes as I'll wear them again then, so can I have an ivory bag or do I have to have black. Also if I have black bag and shoes do I have to wear the black fascinator or can I wear the ivory one to tie in the ivory colour further up the body.

I need to look fab because I have to show my selfish sister that I can look lovely and I don;t want to regret the photos.

Thanks girls!

The skirt is lovely, very sophisticated. I would tend to go for pewter/softly sheeny accessories as they are fairly neutral and flattering and lighter for hopefully impending summer. or maybe even a bright colour. Not black, I think, unless it is a city wedding.

Please don't be offended, but I would tend to avoid a fascinator, especially if you are a little bit more voluptuous. I think they seem a bit too "aintree ladies day" - I live near there and I know of what I speak, and they can look a bit silly and small on a bigger person.

MrsBadger · 11/04/2008 14:25

agree pewter is a good idea and that a fascinator may not be.

ignor your sis and concentrate on having a good time yourself - think how lucky you are to be able to have a drink and not have to fanny about hoisting her train around or shoving errant bridesmaids into line or standing around for innumeable cheesily posed pics...

hockeypuck · 11/04/2008 15:39

oooh - I hadn't thought that it might look small on a big person. Hmmmn, I'd only looked at them in terms of drawing attention away from the body and towards the head. This is why MN is fab, you get a proper opinion without it feeling like an insult.

I'd avoided a hat because it might make me look a bit like a mushroom (I am short and dumpy) and think I need something on my head as I don't tend to put my hair up as it is in a short and rather lovely well behaved choppy graduated bob.

I'd just have a really good blow dry and let it speak for itself

mazzystar · 11/04/2008 16:27

I agree. Hair sounds good. Get your make-up done and think about jewellery options for more dressed-upness.

I will try to have a browse for shoes later - nothing too pointy or delicate with the skirt, for bag a lovely soft roomy clutch bag would look good.

hockeypuck · 12/04/2008 20:10

Thanks girls - I'm getting my hair and make up done properly that morning - although I'm not too bad with hair and make up myself, it's just my actual body I have a problem with!

I think I'm looking for a pair of black sandals, not too much of a heel (something chunky or wedgy I think).

what about something like this?

Hobbs shoes are expensive but I find they are very comfy and last well (am living in my black patent wedges atm)

EffiePerine · 12/04/2008 20:17

I love these and reckon you could get away with them with a black and white outfit

in the sale

EffiePerine · 12/04/2008 20:20

as are these - pink and fabulous

EffiePerine · 12/04/2008 20:21

Bugger, links don't work. In order: black wedges, peacock peep toes, black heeled shoes with bow, PINK SNAKESKIN HEELS
( you know you want to )

EffiePerine · 12/04/2008 20:24

really, you can get away with coloured shoes and I think they would look fab. You're ignoring me, aren't you?

hockeypuck · 12/04/2008 22:23

Effie - sorry no, was not ignoring you- just away from PC. Am loving those shoes - totally hadn't thought to look at Hobbs. Very nice.

Think pink might be a tad too much though . If I was wearing an all black outfit I might well have done though!

At the moment, she is lucky I'm not going in one of the three options that I had originally decided on:-

  1. My jeans, hoodie and etnies trainers that I live in
  1. My wedding dress, complete with veil and dried bouquet from 1997
  1. A hot dog dress up outfit, just to see the look on her face.!

Off to browse Hobbs properly now - great idea!
