Airline personal item recommendations

Looking for a bag, as a gift for my mum. She's mid 50s and went without a lot when we were growing up so I'd love to find a nice birthday present. She recently went on holiday with a friend and I know she was a bit gutted about not having a nice "airline personal item" sized bag compared to the friend with whom she went away and having to use a rucksack instead. I just want to treat her.

I'm not a bag person but something Radley esque, that kind of style. Big enough for phone, purse, the clear liquids bag, a book maybe. Not huge but not tiny. Budget up to £100 or so.

Thanks in advance.

"No one is really looking at what bag you use at the airport."

Talk about missing the point. OP if you think your mum would love a Radley bag then I'd go for that.

I have something very similar(same brand) to this which I've used as my carry on bag before (it fits under the seats on Easyjet). I now use a rucksack as I take my laptop but if I wasn't I'd take it. It fits quite a lot in (just won't do up with my laptop in). It's a lovely bag, and leather. I use it for work too.

I personally don’t like the radley bags at all. Very thoughtful of you to buy a bag for her. I have a leather Longchamp bag but would tend to use an Amazon back bag for travel on a plane. I think miatui is a good idea. No one is really looking at what bag you use at the airport.

It wasn't about someone looking at what bag she's using, it's about my mum feeling like she's got something pretty (and for us, expensive) just for her.

I'll check out miatui now. I don't like Radley either, not my style but I think it's something along those lines that she'd like.

I use this. www.samsonite.co.uk/zalia-3.0-backpack-with-flap-14.1---dark-red/147735-1267.html?cgid=backpacks_backpacks-gender-female

it’s more backpack style because I also need to carry a laptop so may not be quite what you’re after, but very practical, comfortable to carry and nicer than a standard rucksack.

Pom Pom London? I think the City Plus would do the trick, but slightly over budget.

Also worth having a look at baby change bags/pram bags (genuinely!). John Lewis have a decent range and lots now don’t look like change bags but just have v useful pockets in sensible places. A pram bag is more “handbag” sized, eg This by Tina + Marl Probably not your mum’s style if she’s more of a Radley woman, but just as an example.

Damn, wish I'd seen whatever this was before the deletion message!

@FriendlyNeighbourhoodAccountant I think it was a cut and paste from a website and then a temu code at the end of the post!

I've got this one and I love it. Lots of useful pockets inside including an insulated one to carry a drink bottle. Has a slot to slide over your suitcase handle which is a great help in airports.

I have a MiaTui one - I've not tried it out yet as I don't fly until the end of July but I am really happy with how it looks considering all the practical features.

check their "bundle offers" as I think they're offering a free passport wallet with the travel bags.

I have a White Stuff dark silver leather tote bag with top zip/zipped inside pocket/two additional small pockets that I deliberately bought as a bag to take on flights. The leather is very good quality and it fits everything in there, even extra duty free purchases. It nestles nicely on top of the big case too!

I personally would be disappointed with a nylon tote bag - but that's me. The Pliage seems to have become the teen girl school bag of choice here and the ubiquity would put me off.

Cambridge Satchel Company have beautiful good quality bags and offer personalisation too

Mia Tui have Ann offer where if you buy a back pack you get a free cross body bag. I know you said she didn't want a ruck sack but these are quite smart. Matching set would look nice I think. They do one that converts from back pack to bag also. I find the practicality of a backpack with a smaller crossbody bag is great for travelling.

Radley have the Finsbury Park medium tote for sale on their website for £64 at the moment. Might fit the bill?
