Summer wedding dress for tattooed guest

Hi,

Please help me find a dress for a traditional Catholic wedding next month, please.
I'm on a pretty tight budget (£60) and need a dress that covers chest, shoulders and most of legs.
Heavily tattooed, but can use some kind of lightweight cardigan/pashmina type thing for the ceremony.
I sound clueless, as not been to a traditional church wedding...ever!
I'd love something colourful that might suit a tall, broad framed, 45 year old me, with pale skin and blonde hair.
Any ideas?!

It’s not as easy as it ought to be!

And you haven’t been specific about dress size. Would this work? It’s rather nice but not sure if the sort of thing you mean. Slightly over budget.

Maybe not colourful, but elegant.

Some lovely dresses in the sale here. My quite alternative older cousin recently wore one of these dresses to be maid of honour at a wedding.

But isn’t this one of the very few Hope & Ivy dresses that both cover the chest and come within or close to the OP’s £60 budget?

That red Monsoon ‘Esme’ dress definitely meets the brief. The others all expose the chest area, which the OP wants to cover. Though it’s not clear if she means trght up to the neck or just partially.

I like both of these; thank you. Especially the top one.
I forgot to put I'm 10-12, dependent on fit.
💚

I should have clarified, sorry: expressly cleavage: apparently, my clavicle is fine to show, apparently! 🙃

Yes, I was erring towards a standard neckline, but if OP wants fuller coverage it might work with a pashmina draped. I really just looked at colour and length 😂

Have a look at Next online, filter to midi and try Lipsy, Love and Roses, Friends like these and Another Sunday.

Don't have any links but is someone telling you that you need to cover up? Cheeky if they are.

It is a sacred religious building so of course she should be covering up.

HTH!

Do you have TkMaxx nearby? My local one would be my go to for this kind of thing.

I don't think tattoos are sacrilegious. It's Catholic not Jewish or Muslim.

Camembertcufflinks · 09/07/2024 17:04

Why should you cover your tattoos?! Unless you have satanic symbols visible, I can't see even in a Catholic Church why this makes a difference. I wouldn't even think twice about this. So long as you aren't wearing risqué clothing and it's not white so you clash with the bride, I wouldn't worry about covering your tattoos.

ButtSurgery · 09/07/2024 17:09

To be fair, the last "High" Catholic wedding I went to I also covered my shoulders and boobs in the cathedral and wore a long dress. Seems basic in a church to me, tattoos or no tattoos. The dress was a deep V neck and strappy so was fine in the evening without the jacket!

KreedKafer · 09/07/2024 18:31

Provided you cover your shoulders and don’t have a plunging neckline - which would apply to anyone at a Catholic church - it doesn’t matter if you have visible tattoos in a church.

Maybe because the OP wants to? She said she'd never been to a church wedding. She may simply feel more comfortable, if she's unsure of etiquette/ dress code, to cover her tattoos.
