I want a manicure to get pretty feet but

I am so ashamed of my feet.

They have hard soles. All nails. Bony. White. Large.

Just so ugly.

I couldn't bear to reveal them to a beautician.

Is there a stronger treatment than just a pedicure for the nails? What's it called?

Chiropodist

I agree - go to a chiropodist or podiatrist to get your feet sorted.
Then get a pedicure.
In the meantime you could put nail polish on your toe nails but remove it before going to the chiropodist/podiatrist.

Sorry for dumb question, but what does a chiropodist actually do to your feet? Do they take the hard skin off?

deeahgwitch · 09/07/2024 16:10

Yes a chiropodist will take the hard skin off.
They are qualified health care practitioners unlike most of those working in your local mani / pedi salon.

Podiatrist (who is medically trained) will remove the hard skin, check for any problems, treat any unsightly nails etc, and give them a good buff & polish. You'll then be able to maintain & go for pedicures to keep them looking nice.

My local salon can deal with hard skin but depends just how bad. I go twice a year to keep them ok

A farrier is what you need 😆

You can buy urea cream and heavy duty raspers online. The rasper things really work for excess, thick skin and look like a cheese grater. Do you trim your own nails? Scissors or pincher type clippers can be easier to use than those small, metal clippers. A podiatrist is also a good idea, especially to get it manageable before seeing a beautician. A podiatrist won't paint your nails, but trim them and remove excess heel skin.

Any health issues? Cracked and thickened foot skin can be a sign of a deficiency or diabetes. If you do see a beautician, pedicure is for a foot treatment, whereas manicure means the hands.

Could be a fungal nail thing if they're white.

For the hard skin on soles, get some flexitol or equivalent with 25% urea in it. Works wonders.

I second this.
