What to wear for summer holiday post 40 year old? Not sure I still look good in short shorts?

I know people may say wear what you like and feel comfortable in. But when I look in the mirror I feel I now understand the saying you are as old as your knees. My go to summer holiday wear has always been short shorts - denim or otherwise. Along with a pretty vest or sleeveless top. But they just don’t look right any more. So I am pondering alternatives.

knee lengths shorts
three quarter length trousers
knee length skirts
maxi skirts

i feel maxi skirts are the most stylish of these but I am a mum of sporty kids and always in the go so maxi skirts aren’t really practical.

knee length skirts look really old fashioned to me
although could maybe work

which are most stylish out of knee length shorts vs three quarter trousers?

many advice greatly welcomed

I've just bought these. Reckon I will wear them all summer, and everyday on holiday (also France)

I'm 42 and regularly wear denim shorts (short but not hot pants 😂) cycling shorts with oversized T-shirts, and co -ord floaty shorts with a matching top or shirt with vest top in summer.

I'm 46 and just packed for my holiday.

I tend to wear mid thigh shorts, maxi skirts or skirts/dresses that end just above the ankle bone. This year I am experimenting with a pair of wide leg, high waist cotton trousers.

Cargo tea dyed cropped trousers look nice

Really lovely!!
I'm a real dress 40+ but generally live in dresses. Just having to invest in a few more jersey ones, having put on some weight! Also have a few favourite pairs of cropped trousers and loose coulottes that I can wear with different tops.
Was in South of France recently and very much floaty, beach cover ups and mixture of dresses/trousers etc. If likely to be hot, cover up with floaty styles - just get a selection you can pull out for holiday!

Just wear the shorts. I'm 43, and I finally got sick of roasting about 2 years ago. The 2 great things about being 40 + are , 1 u are too old to care. 2, you are invisible anyway 🤣

My thighs are pretty chunky but I think skinny is on its way out anyway so..
