Saltwater boardwalk & plantar fasciitis

longtompot · 29/06/2024 18:12

Does anyone have these sandals and have plantar fasciitis and find them comfortable? I would like to be able to wear them dog walking and for smart casual wear.
I am looking for a replacement for my beloved around town back strap Merrells. I thought I found them with some Timberland ones but they were far too small and no option to get a larger size (I'm a UK 8)

No they are really flat and feel just like regular Saltwaters. I wore them once and my PF flared up. I should have known better, a summer in the originals started it all in the first place.
Birkenstock Mayaris for me now, or Doc Marten sandals if I need something a bit tougher looking. Do not waste your money like I did.

longtompot · 29/06/2024 23:05

Oh that's annoying @Gowlbag I have had a pair of Birkenstocks but my feet suctioned onto them and made loud farting noises as I walked! I don't want that to happen again. I've had a look at Docs but they seem to just be in black which I don't want. I wish somewhere here sold the SWs so I could try them on.

Try a bigger size or wider birkies. I also have strive but they're not as good quality as Birkenstock or Merrell but are so comfy to wear!! Vionics are orthotic too?

chalkyc2 · 30/06/2024 00:15

I find the 'swimmer' style the most comfortable - with the chunky sole. Much less flat and barefoot than the originals. I'd say worth a try from a website that does returns? I'm slightly prone to PF and Achilles problems and these are fine for me - however I don't walk long distances in them.

Have you seen the podiatrist for plantar fasciitis?

Enko · 30/06/2024 08:03

Brands I found helpful with Planctar Facilitis were

Allegria (I love this brand was the only one that really supported me)
sandal

Birkenstock
Clogs with a back might help?

Fitflops
These are similar to the ones you are asking about but much thicker heel

Finally I still to this day wear insoles in shoes not fully the right fit
similar to those

My friend loved
Joya shoes This shop has a lot of helpful brands so worth a peruse.

Enko · 30/06/2024 08:07

I should say I can wear a pair of Vionics 1 day without my PF flares up but not 2. It can be such a hit and miss what works for you. I know others love Vionics and I was excites to get a smarter.looking shoe. In truth it is t the brand for me.

Hopeandmoss · 30/06/2024 08:15

Definitely stick with Merrell - expensive but so worth it for comfort. I can also get away with Hotter sandals for one day only! Have you tried seeing an osteopath for your plantar - it is your legs that cause the foot pain and worked a treat for me.

SquishyGloopyBum · 30/06/2024 08:30

Sketchers have arch support. Ive got a few of theirs which are super comfy.

WetBandits · 30/06/2024 08:33

I could only wear Nike Air Max (the original style with a large wedge!) and memory foam Skechers when I had PF! I had it in both feet and used to cry every day for 6 months feeling like my feet would never feel the same again.

longtompot · 30/06/2024 16:48

Thank you all! That's such a shame they won't be good for my feet as they look so nice.

@Enko I have those insoles and wear them all the time with all of my different shoes and boots.

I haven't seen anyone about it, though did contact my gp and was referred to physio but they just gave me an exercise sheet to do until an appointment came through. But timing wasn't (or was as it turns out) great as I had an operation and wasn't walking quite as much so my heel had a lot of rest and the pain is much much better. Some days I forget I have it!

The reason I am after sandals is I have Pompholyx eczema (also known as ‘dyshidrotic eczema’) which has got much worse this year, I think due to wearing my trainers much more. I'd normally be wearing my sandals a lot more by now. So as much as a lot of those shoes suggested would be great for the PF they wouldn't be as good for the eczema.

Ahh well, the search went on, and I have found these. Not heard of Kamik before, does anyone know if they are a good make and comfortable?

I have PF also caused by saltwater originals. My own fault 100%.

Anyway Tevas. I love them and they love me back. It's pure joy to wear them
I have two pairs of the universal. Didn't colour

For help g the PF Hoka recovery slides at fantastic.

Possiblyfamous · 30/06/2024 21:40

I cured my PF by walking around in toe separators for about ten minutes each day - maybe that could help you too! 🤞

CumbersomeRobes · 30/06/2024 22:02

I wear mine daily in the summer and find them really good for PF. Could not ever wear the original Saltwaters, just too flat. The boardwalks are really comfy!

whysorude · 30/06/2024 22:09

Hi OP,
I too have PF and Pompholyx eczema. A combined total pain in the backside.

I've found Hotter's Tourist sandals comfortable and supportive. Also a pair of Lotus 3-strap sliders from a few years ago.

I am always on the search for the elusive fabulously-strappy-supportive-and-fashionable sandal that will make my goblin feet look smooth and dainty. Unfortunately I don't think they exist. 😔

longtompot · 01/07/2024 16:37

Oh @whysorude I'm so sorry you have this double whammy of fun! It's been much worse this year than previous years, the eczema that is. I'll keep the Hotter in mind, in case these other ones are no use.

@TherapistInATabard they are lovely, thank you for the link. I'll keep those in mind too.

I think as along with the PF I seem to have an issue with the tendon below my inside ankle bone which is also linked to dropping arches, I really need an arch support so my original idea of the Saltwaters is off the cards. Unless they start to do them with arch support one day.
