‘Bohème chic’ wedding guest dress for the desert

Hello - another person with a wedding guest outfit conundrum! Have kindly been added as a fairly late plus one to the wedding of my boyfriend’s friends. I’m very much looking forward to going, however am tearing my hair out a bit on what to wear. Not helped by the fact I don’t really know any other ladies going, so can’t ask them!

Wedding is the desert in Morocco in August - evening event, so apparently temperatures will have dropped. Guest code says ‘Bohème chic’. For Men it asks for linen suits in pastels or shades of camel with shirt and tie.

What do I wear?!

I’m interpreting the Bohème chic to mean flowy and non-structured, probably maxi length… but given the colours suggested for men, I also assume not too bright? But can’t be too light with fear of looking bridal!

I wore this dress to a wedding in the south of France earlier in the month - lovely to wear, but I think the blues are too much? https://www.mytheresa.com/gb/en/women/poupette-st-barth-faye-printed-midi-dress-blue-p00746549

I’m early 30s, size 10, mid/dark brown hair and typically drawn to richer colours like cobalt blue, raspberry pink etc. ideally don’t want to spend more than £200, unless I love it!

Anyone seen any dresses that might fit the brief?

thank you in advance!

I think the dress you already have is lovely and would not be ‘too bright’ for the dress-code.
(Disclaimer- I am not a person that anyone with style would ask for fashion tips from 😁)

Who sets a gust dress code that strict? What a loser.

OP your dress is lovely and will be fine. Bridezilla however......

Twoshoesnewshoes · 29/06/2024 11:14

Agree that dress will be lovely
maybe add silver sandals and silver bangles?

StasisMom · 29/06/2024 11:16

I'd stick with that dress and go for boho accessories and jewellery. Ottoman Hands do gorgeous jewellery which may fit the bill.

I think this is crap too. Who tells guests what to wear?! It's a wedding not a photoshoot.

MeinKraft · 29/06/2024 11:19

One of those M&S Sienna Miller dresses would be the thing.

Another poster chose this to go to an Indian wedding. Sure she won’t mind me suggesting it.

Is this is a Siena Miller one a PP referred to upthread -- I think it's lovely. And I agree about adding some jangly bangles and earrings to heighten the boho effect. Perhaps a shrug or shawl too if you want or have to cover up a bit if it gets chillier later in the evening.
(if you want subtle, the one in peach ombré might do the job. )
Sounds like a lovely occasion, have fun!

Incorporating art and design, as well as referencing the washed-out colours of India’s pink city, Jaipur, and the streets of Morocco, were key components in Sienna’s vision for the curation of this collection. This can be seen clearly with the ombre sl...

I'd absolutely wear the dress you already have and make a significant don't in cost per wear considering no cross over of guests! Like others have said just pick boho accessories. There's only so many dressy summer dresses one woman needs and they date surprisingly fast

GlitteringFeeling · 29/06/2024 17:52

Thank you all for your replies - really appreciate it and the fact there’s a clear consensus I can wear the dress I have!

I’ll definitely look at how I can accessorise it to up the boho ante… luckily am a fan of bangles so I am sure I can raid my jewellery box.

Whilst it's a lovely dress, just be aware that with the country you are going to, a light cover up (cardigan, jacket etc) maybe wise! If temperatures have dropped at little anyway as it's evening, you may need an extra layer anyhow!!

NC10125 · 29/06/2024 21:05

Is one of the couple Moroccan?

If so all of these are too revealing unless you know their families really well and know that even cousins, aunties etc will be in European clothes.

I think that you want something which covers legs, chest and upper arms, ideally full arms if you can find it. Moroccan women will be covered even if they aren’t religious.

GraySweatpants · 29/06/2024 22:01

Sorry OP but I think while your dress is lovely, the colour is just not it. It’s a bit too blue Santorini kinda vibe for a Morrocan desert wedding.

The male dresscode is a hint, so you should choose colour that looks good next to them eg. pastels, caramel tones colours…I do love this if you have the budget but there’re loads similar to this style

Andee Dress

Shoulders out. Shop the Andee Dress from Reformation, a maxi length dress with a halter neckline. It's fitted in the waist and has a side slit.

I was going to suggest the same! Sounds like it fits the description well and looked really nice on the OP going to the Indian wedding.

How about something like this?

Catandthemoon · 30/06/2024 04:07

I think your dress is lovely and the blue is in keeping with Moroccan Blue.

Fraaahnces · 30/06/2024 05:18

I feel like the blue dress is just slightly too casual. Boho chic doesn’t mean beachy chic… I think the green JLo dress above is closer to the mark.

NotAgainWilson · 30/06/2024 07:20

Your dress is lovely but it is not boho at all (I agree that is mega bridezilla to dictate a theme when people are spending already so much just to travel and stay for the wedding).

If the bride or groom are Moroccan, choose something that covers your arms, back and bubs. Don’t use anything tight fitting if you don’t want to roast in that heat. It will get colder at night but colder at night may still be well above 30 c.

Considering that is August AND it is Morocco, natural fabrics would keep you more comfortable and fit with the boho theme much better.

NotAgainWilson · 30/06/2024 07:23

This is what I was thinking while I was reading this thread. My limited experience in the Moroccan desert is that people are traditional and woman are covered. Even if you are a visitor, it is appropriate to dress modestly.

You must go to some very posh weddings. That dress would have not looked out of place at any wedding I have been to.

@GlitteringFeeling as it is in the desert I would take a something to put over the dress as night time temperatures can be quite cool in the desert, even in august.

Amsx · 30/06/2024 07:59

I think it's too Greek but it might be okay with another layer over.

mitogoshi · 30/06/2024 08:09

In Morocco I would cover your shoulders as a minimum, in the desert means not a tourist resort which are more westernised. I would carry a scarf with you as well to cover hair if necessary during your trip. I went into the mountains and was glad I wore loose linen wide legged trousers and a long sleeve cotton tunic top as all women were dressed pretty conservatively
