Anyone mid 50's and using tretinoin?

Thinking of signing up for either Skin and Me or Dermatica.

If you are using it when do you start to see results?

I'm 54 and have been using Dermatica for 18 months. I saw a visible difference within a month. My skin has never looked better. Wish I'd known about it years ago!

That's fantastic, do the results keep getting better or are you maintaining the results you saw after a month?

I’m late 50s and have been using for about 10 years - Dermatica. I noticed a big difference within about 6 weeks which continued to improve for the first 6 months. My skin was smoother, brighter and more even toned. After that the difference has been less noticeable but I’m 10 years older and I still think my skin texture is better than it was in my 40s.

ASighWasMadeOfStone · 27/06/2024 17:09

I was but I've gone back down to Retinal.
Whichever you choose, remember vitamin A is a long game and you won't see any noticeable difference for months and months. Then one day you'll look in the mirror and think "oh I look good for my age".

I use it sometimes. So here is my routine that I follow:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
Garnier spf
Evening:
Cerave moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel

Surely Tretinoin has to be used on a regular basis to have any effect?

spikeandbuffy · 27/06/2024 17:21

@Bignanna I use it 2-3 times a week or every 3 days or so and still a huge difference in my skin

twiddlingthumbs69 · 27/06/2024 17:53

Has anyone seen a good difference in lines and wrinkles?

Portish · 27/06/2024 19:36

I used it for about 6 months and overall my skin looked better. The tone was even, red patches cleared up and my fine lines were reduced. I stopped using it every night thought as my face became incredibly shiny and tight! It took me a few weeks of intensive moisturising to get some softness and supplenesses back. I use it once or twice a week now and it definitely works best for me this way. I also lowered the strength of the tretinoin too. It's effective but you can be given a too strong prescription and don't have to use it every night.

HannaLaura · 27/06/2024 21:57

Yes, my skin has improved massively too. It seems to ‘shed’ more so within a month it looked brighter.

I must say Dermatica were brilliant with me when my GP diagnosed that COVID had affected my skin. I submitted some photos, they assessed me and sent my low dose treatment for free.

The other great thing is that I am not wasting money on trial and error ( I went through other brands) or expensive moisturisers. I use basic Vitamin E from Superdug or the occasional interesting cheap find in TKMaxx.

Some great offers at the minute.

I have a code if it is useful.

Try personalised skincare for just £2.90, plus £10 off your next month.

This is so useful. Thanks op

Just bear in mind that if you want to incorporate tretinoin you MUST be wearing SPF every single day (preferably factor 50, and 1/4 teaspoon just for the face)…. You should really be doing this anyway (SPF is the best anti aging product you can buy!), but especially important if using a retinol. Using SPF every day also means making sure you remove it every day- you’ll need an oil based cleanser, preferably followed by a second (water based) cleanse. Then apply your tret to clean dry skin (and just finish with a basic moisturiser to seal).

Yes I use it regularly, there is no problem but its always best to consult your derm because everyones skin is different

Notsuchafattynow · 02/07/2024 19:18

I'm 52 and found skin and me about two years ago. I have oily spotty skin and this has completely cleared my spots.

You can send photos and ask for a change whenever you feel it's stopped working. I use a very light bb cream now, and before it was always foundation.

Re wrinkles, I'm not very wrinkly as I'm oily, but hoping this keeps them at bay, for longer.

bigchanges1 · 02/07/2024 19:54

I am 50 and started tret from Dermatica earlier this year.

I sent a photo & said it was tret I was interested in as have been using medik8 retinol for a year or so.

Its £24.99 each time it’s sent and I'm on my second tube
so far as I only use 1 pump a day and to start with only used it twice a week.

This tube is slightly stronger than the previous one and the next is slightly stronger again, then the strength remains the same unless the dermatologist thinks it needs changing when I send next update photos.

My skin tone has evened out and I have had comments such as I am glowing and looking well.

I don’t have deep lines yet, so haven’t really noticed a difference there but they have certainly not worsened in that short time either though.

In the morning I cleanse with a cream cleanser, use medik8 vitamin c serum, moisturise with cerave & use spf50.

Then apply any make-up I’m wearing that day.

Of an evening, I cleanse with Superdrug cleaning balm, once dry I use Dermatica tret (1 pump) and then use cerave (Vaseline on my neck though).

I can definitely see an improvement to the photos I took that I sent them in the beginning 😊

I'm 48 and have used fir a few years, start slowly. Spf every single day.

I'd really recommend Uncouth over dermatica, it's cheaper, (£24.20 a month instead of £24.99 and 30ml for Dematicas 24ml) amazing customer service. Dermaticas is appalling! And a much nicer formula.
