Can I have this style of fringe?.....

Hi,

So I've always had very thick hair, but over the years (now 40 with iron deficiency) it's thinned out a lot, especially at the front and temples.

I've not had a proper fringe since I was a little girl, but my hairline is starting to look a little matronly and I was wondering if this kind of style would help. I also wonder though if you can have this style if you're thinner on the top and temples. Does it actually work? I do have layering round the sides and my hairdresser does refer to it as a fringe, but that's not really how I think of it.

I have a roundish face, but with a narrow forehead, full cheeks and small chin, so would this also help balance me out?

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thank you 😊

No way a pro, but in between cuts my fringe grows out like this. My hair is mega thick but I've had iron deficiency hair loss in the past at the same time as a fringe. And like you it was mostly thinning at the temples.

The fringe worked really well when hair was loose. When I had it up in a ponytail I felt self conscious that the hair loss could be seen at the side of the fringe where the rest of the hair was pulled back. But actually, looking around since, lots of women have thinner hair there. I think I was self conscious because it was different for me, but doubt it stood out much.

I think if I had the issue again I'd do a low plait though, as I suspect I exacerbated my hair loss by scraping it back tightly the whole time. Getting my iron ferritin levels up nearer 70 got the hair growing back, btw.

A shag with curtain bangs?

Thank you @CapybaraDreams Can I ask how you managed that? I've been trying for over a decade, but can't seem to get it above the early to mid 20's. I was considering going private and having an iron infusion, but the risks put me off a little.

Oh that's horrible for you, you must be feeling somewhat wiped out at that low level?

Have you discovered your cause? I'm fairly sure mine is just being vegetarian and having a short period cycle. So I'm lucky that ferrous furmerate supplements work. My friend can't absorb though (gut issues) and has infusions. It's the only way she can feel ok for some of the time. There's a v informative FB group called "The Iron protocol for iron deficiency with or without anaemia". Lots of people post about experience with infusions and supplements and the mod has provided extremely extensive research on iron deficiency.

@CapybaraDreams yes, I often do feel wiped out, but the Dr will still tell me I'm within normal range....yet I'm classed as deficient, so I don't see how I can be in normal range 🤔

Mine is definitely due to super heavy periods and now, like you, a short cycle. Used to be 30 plus days, but now is usually 25 days.

Thank you for that! I'll check it out 😊

I’d call that a split fringe

I have a fringe due to a similar issue - widows peak hairline with just baby hair in the peaks. But I’ve always had it. I do have low iron and also low thyroid which are probably connected to the hair (my hair falls out easily).

One thing to watch out for is if you have a cowlick, I have one at my upper right forehead, it means part of my fringe sticks straight up if it dries naturally, I have to blowdry it downwards first.
