What on earth do you wear..........

If you are 5ft 1, size 18 with ginormous breasts (38FF)

seriously it's so miserable, at the moment I'm just living in oversized tshirt and leggings. Wide leg trousers really don't suit me, I wore a dress yesterday but it was high neck and I just felt so bloody uncomfortable all day. I struggle to get tops that fit over my boobs. I have a big tummy, and now a big tummy apron since having my twins by c section.

Please if anyone has any pearls of wisdom style wise send them my way...........

Beyond Nine?

Their dresses and tops should certainly fit. And they run an alterations service so dresses and trousers could easily be taken up.

I have even bigger boobs, but find V necks are flattering. Having a supportive, well fitted bra can help define shape too. I bought this top last week. Its cotton, cool and flattering. I dressed it up with jeans for a night out and its casual enough for day time with shorts/trousers.

Ginormous? Mine were 42ff!

lingmerth · 25/06/2024 14:31

I'm bigger than you and slightly shorter too. You're better wearing more fitted t shirts. I love Seasalt stripy T-shirts . ( sorry don't know how to link) they're more expensive but made well and last for years. I like Roman Originals cropped trousers ( loads of colours) or jeans or shorts if it's warm.
Loose tapered patterned trousers with a plain top look good too.

I'd love to be one of these that had really great big boobs, but honestly mine are really not good (even before I had kids) - I know lots of larger women who have amazing cleavages and look absolutely fabulous in whatever they wear. A woman I know is quite a bit bigger than me, but also a bit taller. She always looks amazing, so stylish and I look at her and think why don't I get it right like that??? Maybe it's just confidence?

My boobs just look, well fat. And I do have good bra's but they really don't give any kind of cleavage they just keep them supported. I absolutely hate padded bra's and find them so unbelievably uncomfortable.

I'm 44 and am terrified that I'm turning into my mum, I see myself wearing the same things over and over again. When I wear a dress I honestly feel like I'm in fancy dress and can't wait to get it off, I feel like a clown at a party 😞

I feel like that about dresses too. I buy them but don’t wear them, stupid.
I’m just five foot, 36GG bra size. It’s so much easier to get things to fit wearing separates so I mostly wear some sort of trousers, jeans, lightweight or mostly comfy jersey ones from M&S,occasionally a skirt, I’m SO stylish 😂. Then either a jumper in winter or a T shirt or more interesting top or blouse in summer. Boring I suppose but it works for me. I’m lucky to be able to shop at the cashmere outlets in the Borders for jumpers & try to find tops with a bit more interest than a plain T shirt.

lingmerth · 25/06/2024 23:16

@Darklane agree about dresses. They just don't hang well on big boobs and the fact most dresses are long puffy sleeved and buttoned up high it's a recipe for disaster!
I live in jeans and trousers, don't own any skirts and have dresses stockpiled that I've worn once and looked so awful I've never worn them again.

TheOGCCL · 25/06/2024 23:26

I’m taller and ‘only’ 30FF but totally relate to the idea it just all feels like fat and I dont wear dresses either. Dresses always feel too much for me.

I think the key is to define your waist and broaden your bottom half eg with pleated trousers, or flares, so you look more in proportion.

I also like to have two vertical lines breaking up my bust usually a cardigan or an over shirt.

Topbird29 · 26/06/2024 08:49

Am a size 18/20: with 42gg (but slightly taller). Have got linen shorts from next and their cap sleeved t shirts and vest tops. Also got some relaxed fit vest tops from m & s this year- seem quite flattering around the tum. And some dresses from m & s - there's a plain linen mix shift dress for £29.50 which is flattering, and a couple of their £19.50 dresses have been quite good. And mostly cotton so not too clingy.

Petrine · 26/06/2024 08:58

I’d suggest empire line dresses and tops. Seasalt do quite a few. Below is a link the the first one I came across - they do others.

Have you looked at Claire watkins - stylist on instagram. She's a very similar shape. Plus Melissa Murrell on YouTube has several styling videos for different shaped bodies that are well worth looking at.

Thank you so much for mentioning this, I’ve gone slightly mad and booked a personal styling appointment with her, no availability until end of October but I’ll take that 😂

I definitely need someone to hold my hand and guide me to what suits, flatters me

I have big boobs and am 5ft 2 and find skirts and t shirts are great for this weather. Buy good quality thicker t shirts (Boden are great) because thinner T shirts don’t sit as well over the boobs. Add a Skirt, quite plain and normally the same colour as the t shirt which makes you look taller.

Wow, she's meant to be brilliant at her job. Come back on Mn & tell us all how it went.

I have the same problem as you @houseworkneverends and have put a lot of thought into it.

definitely agree with @TheOGCCL about defining your waist - look for T shirts that are described as ‘fitted’ or consider taking them in a little at the waist. Avoid boxy fit T shirt. You want to find things that skim your figure ( not always easy, I know)

You can de-emphasise your top half by making your bottom half look a bit wider - then your figure is more balanced. I’ve done well with some jeans this season which were described as straight cut but are actually quite wide in the leg. They’re cargo pants, so there’s a lot of detail, pockets and seams, going on lower down which draws the eye and they really balance my figure.

Another trick is to keep your tops, etc, very neutral and plain and wear your more eye catching colours, patterns, etc on your bottom half.

A loose thin v neck cardigan or wrap, very plain and simple, that you wear unfastened, is good for creating vertical lines down your chest area which will reduce it visually.

I just thought I’d update this thread as today I had my personal styling appointment with Clare Watkins

it was without doubt the best decision ever! I learnt all about what colour I am (warm spring) what colours best suit me, and I came away with 10 items that have totally transformed my wardrobe - I now have the beginnings of am amazing capsule wardrobe (and none of the items were black 😂)

Clare was so kind, knowledgeable and encouraging (but also told me when something didn’t look right, which is just as important)

The majority of my items were from Whistles, but I also got Addidas platform trainers.

if anyone is tempted then I highly recommend

Thanks for the update - so glad she was worth the wait!

Was she able to suggest styles that worked with your figure?

Hope you enjoy wearing your new wardrobe!

Cantonet · 31/10/2024 12:05

I'll second that - empire line definitely the way to go. I've got some lovely Seasalt dresses, many of which come in Tall too. They're streamlining and really easy to wear. (I'd love 'em even more if they knocked off the floral prints a bit, but that's their USP I guess!)

I'd also recommend the 'Starlight' tea dress style at Nobody's Child.

Both styles look great on those with generous boobage.

Edited to say - thanks for the update OP, sounds like you had a brilliant session! Could make it an annual thing, I always feel I'm starting again when new styles come in...
