Bras for small boobies

My daughter in her late teens is an AA/A cup. She likes to wear the push up bras that have some sort of gel/mini chicken fillet type of thing built in to give a little bit of extra volume and uplift. Trouble with these is, from a side on view or when bending over the cup gapes away from the breast and you can see everything, so she can’t wear anything remotely low cut which limits her clothing choices. She found a bra company called pepper bra which still has a push up element but a cup which doesn’t gape, however these are £75 plus shipping costs from North America! Can anyone advise on something similar from the UK? Preferably not as expensive. Small boobs is something she didn’t inherit from my side of the family so this bra issue is new to me. TIA.

Is she totally flat as AA would mean underbust and over bust measurements are the same? Could she measure to get an idea of size e.g. tight underbust measurement to give back size and then measure over the fullest part of the bust to get the cup size. Each inch difference between under and over measurements increases the cup by one size

I have been small chested for many decades (!) and am fairly confident in saying that there is no cheap alternative to what your dd wants to be found in the UK.

I have also been tempted by Pepper but like you am baulking at their prices.

Years ago I got two wonderfully well fitting bras in the style she wants, but they were a present from my Mum who took me to Rigby and Peller in London to be measured and fitted. I am pretty sure they were more expensive than Pepper.

It may be worth your dd getting professionally measured too.

Has your daughter been measured properly? I have unknowingly spent the past 30 odd years in A cup or AA cup bras thinking I had small boobs and that this was the right size for me. Lo and behold, I'm not 36AA, I'm 32D!!!! I did my own measuring following advice I found online and I did not believe it until I went out and bought a 32D. Perfect fit! No gaping at all, which was always my biggest problem. Please get her measured, it is life changing!!!!

I would echo those saying to measure her. Not by M & S either really don't know what they are doing. Can you measure around her rib cage then round her actual breasts across the nipples?

Thanks, yes she is almost totally flat chested. You can see she has the shape of breasts there but they are extremely small. I will take her to be measured to check that she has the right band size (30, she’s a size 8) and cup size.

Thanks, I will take her to be measured to be sure. I know that people wearing a band size that’s too big and a cup size that’s too small is common - I was advised about this myself a few years ago. She will absolutely, definitely not be a D though!

If you have a measuring tape she could measure herself.

I am quite old and almost completely flat, I always found that very padded bras gaped at the top so stopped wearing them and learned to accept my shape and dress for it. Many clothes are not designed for women with very small breasts, so you need to dress so that the focus is on different parts of the body. My small breasts made me feel somehow inadequate as a young woman, although I had boyfriends and married and those men didn't care. It was only really after I successfully breast fed my first child that I fully accepted it was absolutely fine to have almost no boobs. Even when breastfeeding A cup maternity bras were baggy!

I totally agree with you! I’ve talked to her a lot about body acceptance, seeing the plus points, beautiful famous women with flat chests, clothes that flatter etc etc. Unfortunately, for now at least, she still wants the padded bras.
