Really awful legs- minority

I have really awful legs does anyone else?

Is there a solution or am I doomed to a life of midi skirts.

I think I just want some solidarity really and a bit of a moan!

I am size 16 / 18 so yes overweight and plus size. Yes I need to lose weight but short of a gastric band I have tried it all. I had a "mini analysis" and came out at pear out though I reckon I'm slight pear/hourglass .

I feel most people people at this size/ weight look fine in shorts and mini dresses and have proportioned legs but I can't wear dresses my legs are a prohibitive factor

I'm not sure if they are just fat or if I have stage 1 lipodema as the whole of my legs are covered in a blubbery layer that sort of shimmers. My ankles don't exist (I only realise this recently) and there is definitely some odema. My knees are dreadful. If wore a short skirt or dress my thighs and pants would be visible to the world

I thought I'd try some knee length shorts but they were even worse my knees looked like the Mitchell brothers.

I swim a lot too so it's not lack of exercise - mother and grandmother also afflicted. I have some. I've chino shorts from ASDA that are fine for home and holiday.

signing in. I'm a 16-18, BMI 28 at the moment so big ole legs are par for the course. However when I was a tall size 10-12 with a BMI of 22 I STILL had thunder thighs and really big cankles. Every bit of spare weigh goes to be legs. I would love to wear shorts away from the beach but they are so dreadful on me. I am currently really grateful that wide leg trousers are having a moment.

Mine are also awful, far worse since having kids. I’m a size 10 on top, 14 on bottom. The flabbiness is one thing, but I also have cellulite / stretch marks since having kids, some veins on the backs and also have pale skin and dark hair so like a PP they just never look ‘right’ even if they were slim! I also find even when I lose weight I have little stubborn ‘pockets’ at the top of my thighs that just rub against everything.

Ive basically never been able to wear shorts, short skirts or anything they reveals my legs. It’s quite sad really, everywhere I look people seem to have their (lovely) legs out. Even those with big thighs often have smooth/ toned/ tanned legs that I can never achieve! Tried a spray tan recently but just ended up looking patchy … argh!

my solution for summer is maxi dresses but I’m struggling to find any that suit me this year. I do find it depressing having to plan everything around not revealing any leg :(

Gabbsters · 23/06/2024 16:14

I really like pedal pusher length for summer and it is flattering on most people.

Abitorangelooking · 23/06/2024 16:21

My legs aren’t great but I’ve recently dropped a dress size from a 16/18 bmi 30ish to a 14 bmi 27 it has made a big difference to the puffiness/ lipodema. Although they do still get puffy if on my feet for a long time I’ve rediscovered my ankles.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/06/2024 16:23

I’m not especially fat (10/12) but have always had chunky legs - I can still remember my grandpa saying I had “hockey player’s legs” (sturdy) when I was a little girl. I wear midi dresses if it’s bare legs weather, but don’t mind shorter things with opaque tights.

today I am wearing boxer style cotton shorts at home/garden and I think they look quite cute, but I wouldn’t go out in the wild in them.

Quitelikeacatslife · 23/06/2024 16:23

I am fat but I do carry it on my legs, cankles are just the worst. I wear pretty maxi dresses and wide legged jeans. I've just bought some nice wide leg floaty trousers , there are lots of those about . I wear shorts in the garden only . On holiday by pool beach etc I just brazen it out, don't let it spoil things .

I cannot imagine anything worse than a skin tight trouser that ends half way down the widest point of a fat lumpy calf

In fact I feel you must be joking. 🙃

No I’m being completely genuine. They finish above the widest point. Also not skin tight.

I have always been pear shaped and discovered around ten years ago that I have
lipoedema. My Mum and her sister had/have it, too, and it is a hereditary hormonal condition that affects mainly women and girls from puberty onwards. There is very little treatment for it and far too few doctors recognise it even now. As for clothes, I wear trousers, leggings longer skirts or dresses. I like longer tunic style tops, which cover my bottom but flatter my waist and bust as they are my best features. I am a size 14/medium top and 16/18 bottom.

GettingStuffed · 23/06/2024 19:38

I've given up caring about what other people think, often they don't. It's so liberating.

Happyinarcon · 23/06/2024 20:14

I have bandy spindly legs. If I wear a knee length skirt it looks like they are emerging from 2 different directions. And now I have varicose veins right down to my boney ankles. I would really love to have a wardrobe full of dresses because I think they look elegant but it’s wide leg jeans for me. I looked into getting an operation to get my legs straightened once but it was too daunting.

henlake7 · 23/06/2024 20:22

Im a member of this club too!
Size 8/10 but I have huge, knobbly varicose veins on both legs (also one cankle, just the one tho!). Added to that I've lost a serious amount of weight so have loose skin on my thighs.

I stick with trousers or maxi length skirts and dresses in the summer, shorts indoors only.
I save all my shorter skirts and dresses for winter and wear them with opaque tights or leggings.

dfsddsfdsfsdsdffssffsdfsd · 23/06/2024 20:34

I support my legs personally (as they support me) LOL

Wildmushroom · 23/06/2024 20:40

posting in solidarity, I also hate my bloody legs
i have GIGANTIC calf muscles which I’ve been conscious about since childhood, honestly I look like a male rugby player, and now I have tons of veins which I hate -
would love to wear a pair of shorts or a skirt that isn’t practically ankle
length 😐

chalkyc2 · 23/06/2024 22:20

Mine are ok ish from the knee down. Ankles somehow are slim. Calves betray the fact I actually do play hockey. However I'm a bit gutted that having lost a load of weight I've gone from having fat awful thighs to having loose slightly crepey jiggly thighs. I love to wear shorts so I'm upset that after all this effort it's all too late! In fact bugger a tummy tuck I'd go for a thigh lift over any other surgery.

I also hate that women's shorts are so bloody short. Mens shorts are not!

Anyway. Since I've shifted the weight I've invested in a few things that look ok. Some just below the knee city type shorts from Zara which I love for work.

I've also got some jorts - surfy style. Just above knee. And then some dresses that are knee length and a long denim skirt.

I've also optimistically bought a couple more pairs of shorter shorts which I'm determined to wear on holiday.

No no no no, mine would look like exactly like 2 uncooked sausages sticking out of the bottom
