Work outfits for India Trip

Help! I’ve got to go to India for a week for work. Normally I work a mix of at home and in office - at home I wear leggings and hoodies and in the office I always wear dresses with heels. However, I believe my above knee, often sleeveless dresses would not be considered appropriate workwear for India. So, if anyone has been/goes regularly , please would you advise what sort of thing is ok? Going in a week so temps look like 30+ although will mostly be in air conditioned offices/cars/hotels. Also have to do dinners out so need appropriate evening wear - again I don’t think my usual approach to evening wear would be considered appropriate. I’m 5’10”, late 40s, a size 14 and do not want to spend loads of money on stuff I may never wear again as it’s not my normal style.

I am Indian. Sleeveless would be fine for evening wear in the metro cities if you dont show too much cleavage. Dresses would also be ok for the office but preferably below knee and with short sleeves. Or wide leg linen trousers with a blouse would be great . Short sleeves are fine everywhere. Open toed sandals fine for the office. Heels would be hard work on pavements so flats would be better.

I would look at wearing only linen and cotton. It will be humid. As you don't have much time maybe Cos, M and S or even Uniqlo for linen? And if you have time in India go to Anokhi or Fab India for a possible evening outfit.

I cant link now but Monsoon have a sale on with many cotton dresses and you can wear them again for weddings here.

Colour is good in India and worn in the office as well. You don't only have to wear only black and navy, though if you want to it's fine!

Thanks @Lentilweaver that’s so helpful. I’ve got some smart long and short sleeve blouses I use for zoom calls when I have to look professional, so I think I’ll get a couple of pairs of wide leg trousers and maybe a longer skirt and I should be fine then. Good point on the flats as well! @Helpfullright very good point on the cardigan, air con everywhere can be over the top!

Linen trousers and tunic tops or blouses work well. Longer cotton dresses and skirts too. A lot more colour than worn here but you don’t need to. I used to wear knee length skirts too but I was in my early 20s at the time and they did stand out a bit.
