How to do current jeans and a nice top?

My staple going out for meals, pub outfit etc has been skinny jeans and a nice top for so many years! I’ve finally given up my skinnies day to day for looser styles but they look so casual. How do I dress it up? I don’t wear dressers/skirts so jeans are my go to!

im late 30’s , size 12-14

Heels? Fancy bag?
when you say looser; how much looser? Like flares?

I couldn’t give up my skinnies 😬😅

What jeans are you going for? A wide leg or flared can easily look smart. Heels, nice top, fancy necklace.
I would go for a fitted top when pairing with wide leg trousers. A bodysuit offets the looseness of the trousers so you can maintain some shape

Baggy jeans are chic! Summer jacket must be a waist length trench. Massimo Dutti did a good one. Crochet or fine linen knits are fashionable right now. Add slider sandals (lots of Hermes look alikes around) and you are done. Decent bag for sure but a woven one like Loewe is still fashionable,

Skinnies aren’t so popular but cut off girlfriends are. My late 20s DDs wear them a lot. Plus well cut wide leg trousers. Also vests. They cost next to nothing and you just cover up with a loose knit. Preferably a cardi. Florals aren’t around. Neutral colours are.

Definitely try bodysuits if you’re wearing baggier jeans to give you a bit of shape and smartness. You could also add a casual blazer, one that isn’t super structured (I got one from New Look recently). And then for shoes you could do heels if you’re into them, if not then maybe try a really low block heeled sandal in a neutral colour.
It does kind of depend on the style of Jean you’re now wearing - boyfriend and mom jeans give a different vibe to a wide leg or flare.

Controversially I think it's harder to make non skinny jeans look as dressy. Very dressy isn't in anyway but I immediately feel elevated in skinnies, much more so than other shapes.

Skinnies are slightly more with it if you have something relatively loose tucked in, so a flowy blouse.

My next best would be proper flares with heels and a top tucked in but they are often very high waisted and not comfortable for a meal.

Thanks for the ideas!
at the moment I have wide leg, straight leg and a pair of bootcut that I love as they are flattering but more modern looking than a traditional bootcut. They are all baby blue colours though and look casual.

Love the idea of bodysuit and blazer as that’s very me, I much prefer fitted on top as I have a very small torso.
I can’t wear heels unfortunately due to medical reasons

I never wear baby blue jeans. Very slim DDs do. Dark denim wide legs look classy but yes, no long flowy tops over! More chic fitted ones. Zara shows you how. Barrel leg jeans can look great too. Any decent shirt looks good tucked in. DDs like a crop top or fitted t shirt. Just add jewellery, good make up and classy shoes and bag. This can actually be done quite cheaply! Plenty of copies of high end shoes and bags are available.
