Doing my own wedding day make up?

How do I make it last - do setting sprays work?
Any dos and don’ts to consider?
I would also like a rich, creamy lipstick in nude MLBB tone - any recommendations?
Tempted by NARS powers too but not sure which ones are colourless and would I put it on before cream blush?
Also need a cream blush, cool toned, pink to look natural…

Some John Lewis stores do make up lessons/event make up, the cost of them is taken off purchase. They'll be able to recommend brands and specific products which suit you. Would recommend checking them out if there is one local to you

I did my own makeup, ive never liked it when I've had it done professionally. Focus on skincare in the run up to get your skin looking as good as possible it really makes a difference. Do some trials on yourself to see what you like and how long it lasts etc. Setting sprays i swear my urban decay all nighter, a lot of people like mac fix plus but it doesn't work for me so I think its important to find Products that work for you. Also time yourself doing it so you know how long to give yourself on the day!

I did my own after the make up artist I had booked made me look like a hooker at my trial so I sacked her.

I went round dept store make up counters and asked for advice on products. Most were really keen to help when they heard it was for a wedding and gave me demos. I bought lovely new products that lasted for months for the price of my awful make up artist and was very happy with how I looked on the day.

I did my own wedding makeup by going into Space NK with my budget and letting them help me choose products and teach me how to apply them. I have no specific recommendations though as products change over time, best to get up-to-date guidance.

Unfortunately in the long run it cost me as I developed an expensive Space NK habit and was unable to go back to high-street brands Blush

I did my own, I only wanted natural look so seemed a waste to pay for that. I had a make up lesson at Charlotte Tilbury (the one in Covent Garden), and you can spend the cost of the class in store, on products. Book An Appointment | Charlotte Tilbury

I did my own makeup as I like a relatively natural look - I used Smashbox photo finish primer under my foundation, and also their hydrating under eye primer.
I’d second Urban Decay All Nighter too, I used that over the top of everything and it was brilliant. My wedding was a hot summers day, I sweated a bit and it all stayed put perfectly.

Agree with everyone else - go and get some advice on products and application before you do this. Also consider watchign some tiktok/youtube videos. You can get great tips there.

Also massively depends on your budget, If you don't want to spend a fortune, I'd say prioritise higher spending on foundation and lipstick. I don't tend to use setting sprays or powders but again, for a wedding, that's where I'd be spending my money.

Blusher/bronzer, eye shadow, mascara can all be purchased at a much lower price point while still being great quality.

I did my own make up, I've always hated it when I've had it done. I went to Space NK, got some recommendations and cracked on with it.

There's a knack to getting yourself to look good for photos but not garish in real life.

I'd go and look at beauty counters, and YouTube is another resource for guidance.

I have had professional makeup many times for my job... but did my own makeup for my wedding as I wanted a natural look and wanted to look like 'myself'. I did go to Space NK and have a lesson there and buy some new products and made sure my skin was in good shape in the weeks before but that was it. It worked out really well.

Get a good primer, then estee lauder double wear foundation is amazing (get colour matched at their counter, it really does last all day) and laura mercier powder also lasts all day and doesn't look white in photos. Apply by pressing on with their puff, instead of a brush. Again the ladies at the counters will show you how to do it.

Make sure any product you buy doesn't give you flashback (white marks in photos)

I did my own as I'm not a big make up wearer. I visited a make up counter and asked for their assistance. I actually ended up with an Avon lipstick as it was the exact colour I wanted and then used Lipcote to make it stay. Don't use anything with an SPF in as it flashes back to the camera flash.
