Trainer recommendations - stylish but with excellent arch support?

I have flat feet/overpronating ankles (hypermobility)/back issues, etc, so need some everyday trainers that you can wear with jeans/trousers/a dress, but with really good arch support. Any recommendations? Budget is sub £150. I have insoles as well, and may get custom orthotics, but want the shoes themselves to be supportive and extremely comfortable!

I like white, but also bright and bold colours.

TIA

Ecco shoes were great when I had plantar fasciitis.

It was only when I changed to barefoot shoes that it went.

Lem2 primal or Lem3 primal.

It takes time but you can strengthen your feet.

FairTurtle · 20/06/2024 12:06

@AppleStruddle123 What's Lem2 primal? Just googled it and nothing came up...😑

Should clarify - looking for something a bit stylish/maybe sliiightly jazzy too? Not just your average sports trainer.

You won’t find that with Lems2 or Lems3 !! Barefoot is quite boring unfortunately.

Go for Ecco. Not sure you’re at the barefoot stage of the journey just yet! I have no choice as I have bunions!!

FairTurtle · 20/06/2024 12:16

@AppleStruddle123 Ah, I don't have plantar fascitis, and am not going to go barefoot (not supposed to)! No idea what Lem2 is.

I bought some Adidas Spezial's recently (in orange but they do lots of other colours too). They have some arch support and I find them really comfortable.

Barefoot shoes are supposed to mimic walking barefoot and are supposed to be better for posture and foot care. I don't wear them but a friend and her children do and my friends back and hip problems have disappeared. I think Vivo are a brand of barefoot shoes, and a previous poster mentioned Lems which is another brand.

AuntieGrizelda · 20/06/2024 12:30

I always wear Hotter trainers. Depends how old you are really as the brand has an old lady vibe. I think they are doing their best to become more trendy though.

I started wearing them as I had plantar fasciitis but find them so comfortable. I wear them on holiday and can walk for miles in them

I got some fit flop Rally as I'm hypermobile and read podiatrists recommend them. They are very comfortable

DeepfriedPizza · 20/06/2024 12:39

Just to add, I got them from Amazon for £60 and they're leather

FairTurtle · 20/06/2024 12:56

@FlannelandPuce Ah, I'm not supposed to walk barefoot as I have fallen arches, flat feet and ankle hypermobility. That's why I need support. The opposite of barefoot walking! I'm sure barefoot shoes could be useful for some, but it depends what your specific problems are.

@DeepfriedPizza Thank you! Good to hear from fellow hypermobile person. These look good and are quite stylish too

Just came on here to recommend fitflop. Most comfy shoes I own!

FairTurtle · 20/06/2024 13:03

Hmm FlitFlop don;t talk much about arch support on their site which I thought was strange if they are genuinely supportive shoes. Arch support is really the key thing for me. @Twwodoorsaway @DeepfriedPizza Do you find they have arch support i.e. a raised bit towards the outside of the shoe?

Ooh, i do like these. If anyone has them, let me know how/if they're comfy!

Flat footed here. I find Nike trainers best for arch support. No specific recommendations as I have cheapo and expensive Nikes and they both have good arch support. Sketchers have specific arch support footwear but I've bought a few pairs and they're on a par with my Nikes and are fugly looking.

Well, the raised bit is on the inside of the foot as you look down. My over pronation is quite bad where I can feel the foot going inwards on every step rather than just see it, if you know what I mean? I definitely feel a difference with how much my foot goes inwards when wearing them.

Luckingfovely · 20/06/2024 14:11

@FairTurtle I have exactly the same issues as you!

Fitflop - I recommend for the support but not always the style.

And not what you're looking for today but I swear by Archie's who do the most amazing flip flops and slides with proper arch support.

Back to trainers: I find Nike useless, and have tried most other brands before settling on Adidas.

Currently wearing VL COURT 2.0 SHOES
(The slight platform version) and they are so comfy and look fabulous.

FairTurtle · 20/06/2024 14:20

@Luckingfovely Oooh, good to know! I do like the VL court ones. Wait, do you have the VL Court bold ones? They look good!

OP posts:
Luckingfovely · 20/06/2024 14:28

Yes, these exact ones, and I'm totally in love with them!

One thing I forgot to say - I have to go up half a size in Adidas and then they are perfect.

Trainer recommendations - stylish but with excellent arch support?
FairTurtle · 20/06/2024 14:29

@Luckingfovely Good to know! I'm currently looking at the Gazelle Bold ones, which tbf are quite similar. Guessing the platform is comfortable and doesn't put too much pressure on any joints, knees etc?

I have custom orthotics which go in any shoe I am wearing. They really make a difference to posture and gait.

I have two pairs of Geox because I love fancy shoes and their lace up trainers type shoes fit the stability bill but have lots of fancy bits.

Luckingfovely · 20/06/2024 14:46

@FairTurtle I had regular Gazelles - but bought in my normal size and just didn't find them comfortable.

The half size bigger Courts were perfectly comfortable from day 1 - I've just travelled across Europe in them and had no problems or niggles at all.

Twwodoorsaway · 20/06/2024 21:48

@FairTurtle i do find the arch support really good. I’ve got multiple pairs and all are great (flip flops, trainers, boots, sandals etc). As others said, the arch is higher on your instep but also a support on the outside to stop your foot rotating. I spend a lot of work time on my feet and never get pain wearing them.
