Make Up for a wedding (guest)

So attending a wedding soon. I did toy with the idea of having my make up done (never had it done before) but I was reluctant as I thought what if I didn’t like it & tbh trying to save the pennies. Now the wedding is fast approaching I’m wondering if I should have just booked it & had it done - I am probably the most unphotogenic person on the planet, I am not kidding.

I’m just over 50, wear light make up most days. I find foundation just seems to enhance any lines/wrinkles so I wear a tinted moisturiser. On the rare photos of me, it just looks like I’m not wearing any make up! When I was younger I was probably good at applying make up but now, I just can’t be bothered but I would like to look nice for the wedding.

I can not apply strip lashes for my life. I have tried & they just don’t work, they feel uncomfortable & I’ve tried a few! So I use an eyelash curler & mascara, but still it doesn’t define my lashes enough. I can’t even apply mascara to my lower lashes, it just smudges everywhere, what’s the knack to that?!

Any tips would be appreciated!

What mascara are you using? Get one that “adds volume”.
Use an eyebrow gel and tint, under eye concealer, blush or bronzer and a bright lipstick and you’ll look like you’re wearing makeup.
Hourglass finishing powder can help set your makeup and give you a nice glow: it’s super expensive though.

The good thing is that you have some experience with makeup, so you know what DOESN'T work for you.

If you want more coverage than a tinted moisturiser, you definitely need to use a foundation. Choose a good one that suits your skin type. Start off with a very thin layer of foundation (1 pump), then add more to areas that need more coverage.
Something I do to make foundation look natural is that I take a Beauty Blender sponge, make it quite wet, but not soaking wet, and I use the wet sponge to gently pat down my entire face, including under my. The wet sponge takes any powderiness and excess product away, and makes the foundation melt into my skin so it looks like I'm actually not wearing foundation. I do this trick AFTER I have powdered my face and used a powder bronzer, but before doing my eye makeup.

It sounds to me like you might need to try a different mascara. I would also suggest that you apply a little at a time. When you take the brush out of the tube, wipe some of the excess product off the brush before using it on your lashes. Then, build your lashes with several thin layers of mascara to make them fluttery. I don't like adding mascara on my bottom lashes unless I'm wearing eyeliner and donning a smokey eye.

Thanks for your replies. I’m using Benefit Roller Lash I think it’s called.
Thank you for the tips, I will definitely try out those methods, I’ll do a couple of practice sessions!
