Help please! I have a family wedding to attend on Sunday. I have bought the Huda Beauty Faux Filter luminous matt foundation and I'm getting to grips with the texture and applying it. I'm used to a looser liquid. But now that I've bought it, I don't want to waste money.

Please can you recommend a budget primer and do I need a setting spray? I'm clueless, please help!

Skin prep is more important than primer- have you got a decent moisturiser? Whats the rest of your skincare regimine like?

For setting spray I like the Urban Decay All Nighter, the only one that really works for me. Elf Stay All Night is also okay for the price point. But different ones will work differently depending on your skin type.

@sweetpickle2 thank you so much for your reply. I have the Kiehls gel moisturiser. My skin is combination. I have really amped my skin care in the past few years- daily spf50, liquid exfoliating once a week, I can't tolerate more and I can't do retinol...I've tried!

Really appreciate your advice. I will check out the setting spray.

I second the Urban Decay All-nighter. I have also tried the ELF which is a close second.
I also agree good skin prep rather than spend money on a primer, give your moisturiser a good 20 minutes before applying foundation.
If you have a store handy with a good make up counter you could try blagging a sample primer, Clarins do samples of their Beauty Flash Balm which is excellent.

@Sago1 just jumping in here, does waiting 20mins after moisturiser help prevent against piling in general for most foundations / CC creams?

DreamBream234 · 19/06/2024 09:15

@Sago1 thank you! I didnt realise I had to wait 20 mins but that makes complete sense for the moisturiser to sink in properly. I'm relieved I can skip the primer part!

@CurbsideProphet pilling usually happens because the formulas in your moisturiser and foundation are working against one another- eg an oil-based moisturiser and a water-based foundation will 'repel' one another.

@sweetpickle2 that makes so much sense but has never occurred to me before! Thank you!
