Casual outfits when you want to feel and look good

Late 30's tall, size 12. Ideas for casual outfits with a bit of "je ne sais pas" for when you want to be casual but still look fabulous.

Eg you go for a casual dinner to a friends home, no special occasion.

I'm stuck because post Covid my wardrobe seems to consist of 2 categories only:

Going out-out / date night
Loungewear at home

I no longer seem to have casual / smart casual or fabulous casual!

What's a good current option please? I want to feel good!

I've recently discovered button down shirts and often seem to get compliments when I wear them. Loose white cotton or linen knotted at the waist with shorts, jeans or casual wide legged trousers for daytime; silkier, darker ones with smarter wide legs for evenings.

Another vote for a button down shirt. They are a staple for me. Big boobs, need a V neckline and as luck would have it, I really dislike v neck t-shirts and jumpers 🤣 I usually go for a ‘boyfriend’ fit as they’re a bit looser and more relaxed.

For a smart casual evening I’d probably go with a shirt, jeans and some bold jewellery. White shirts in particular lend themselves to dramatic accessories.

At this time of year, wide leg lined trousers.

Sezanne is awesome for that smart but not done up look.

I also love a fedora - straw in the summer and wool in the winter - and everyone seems to think you’ve made a huge effort if you put a hat on!

I spend so much time trying to make my casual outfits look 'casual' and not 'thought-through' 😅

I really want that effortless look, but honestly i find it hard to know what to wear most days.

I'm trying out the curated closet app and i like it so far because i can group the outfits into 'capsules'. so i have a capsule for casual, work and going out.

I can also schedule the outfits ahead of time which is nice when i'm in a hurry.

Basically jeans with most of my tops work for casual. didn't need an app to find that out 😂

Linen is also really big right now, i'm loving the old money look, but it creases so much!!

I quite like a shirt dress....easy to dress up or down.

Not a criticism in any way, but interesting you used je ne sais pas; I would have said je ne sais quoi - quality that cannot be described or named easily - because it was related to an outfit.
But both can equally apply, so now going to use both!

I’m gong for jeans and a nice top for casual outfits which as it’s the season for it usually means a broderie anglaise blouse and either slightly flared or wide leg jeans with Converse or when the weather heats up sandals or wedges.

I'm tall and love wide leg trousers ( not linen) and a fitted 3/4 sleeve boat or v neck top. Never wear dresses or skirts.

I wear a lot of skirts and dresses. Something like scamp and dude as I love the prints and I can wear with boots/trainers/sandals but could dress up more if needed.

I'm in the same boat as you OP! Been trying to figure this out over the past few weeks.

I've been going for looser fit 'girlfriend' jeans, decent quality, quirkier tees / tops, or simpler vests with a ruched sleeve blazer - similar to a PPs comment on the fedora, everyone seems to think you've made tons of effort chucking a blazer on!

No idea if this is dated or not at the minute though - I'm only just giving up my skinny jeans...
