How to reduce dark/age spots?

In the past year I have had quite a few age spots appear on my face together with what I think is hyperpigmentation.

The more annoying ones are a large one near my mouth that looks like I've got a food stain(!) and one at the bottom of the area under an eye which looks like a shadow under a bag. I also have dark circles under my eyes (but not bags).

In the morning I've been using L'Oreal Bright Reveal Dark Spit Serum that has done nothing and was used up really quickly. In the evening I've used a Vit C serum. I always use an SPF.

Any tips on what might work, preferably not too pricey?

I would start using a retinol product if you aren’t already, niacinamide and continue with the vitamin c. Maybe a glycolic acid cleanser too. These are all supposed to work but may take a few months at least.

Thank you. I had it in my head that Retinol caused age spots so have actively avoided it! 😳

Is there anything I need to be aware of when using it?

Just noticed the typo in my OP - it's spot serum not spit serum! Confused

Start on a low percentage, there might be 0.3 or 0.5, put a little on at night and then use a moisturiser in case your skin gets dry.

I've tried lots of things - lemon juice, face packs, age spot removers of various brands and retinol bought in Spain (you can buy over the counter there). I have 2 main age spots, one on my right cheek and one at the bridge of my nose. They really annoy me, but are the price for sunbathing in my 20's. In January I tried sun+me and I like it. One mistake I was making previously was that I was just trying to treat the spots, not my whole face. The sun+me treats the whole face and I have seen an improvement in my wrinkles. The age spots haven't gone, but they have significantly faded and take less make up to cover. I don't work for them honest - I will attach my referral code for a £5? trial box. They will try and sell you other stuff after the trial but I just buy the daily dose (£25 per month). https://www.skinandme.com/?promocode=MARIANH5CTE

Azelaic acid 10% applied on skin
Tranexamic acid 500mg with lansoprazole from the GP /Derm team at hospital
Usually a two month supply is given

I've tried all of these things, and laser treatment, and none of it has made any difference. I am constantly asked if I've been drinking cappuccino or hot chocolate as one of them looks like a chocolate stain!

I recently found Laura Geller Double Take baked foundation and fix concealer which is the first make up I've used that really does cover the spots. Once I've finished my current lot of Azelaic/Glycolic/Retinol I think I'll give up and just work on cover up.

Never been a sun worshipper and have used SP50 daily for years. I blame the pill.

Mine only went with tret and hydroquinone. I used dermatica but moved to Uncouth.

Much nicer formula and better price.
Vitamin c and Azelaic acid are also good. I can't use vitamin c but have Azelaic in my Uncouth formula

If you use hydroquinone beware it can bleach your pillows etc
