Chin hair out of control

Looking for some advice. I've been having electrolysis pretty regularly since 2020. My hair is pretty fair, but close up what is removed is actually gingery. I know that blonde/red isn't suited for laser removal. But, it's getting out of control. It is basically my entire chin and jawline, and my neck as well, I'm basically shaving every day to keep it to a minimum, leaving the patch the electrolysist (?) is working on each week. I know that waxing is longer lasting but I can't let it grow to the length it would need to be for that, I'd look like the bearded lady. So self conscious about it it's really getting me down. It's really coarse too, she comments a lot about how strong the hairs are etc. Are there any alternatives for actual decent hair removal that lasts well, or the dream of actually being permanent?

Could you try an EpiLady? Be careful around the lips.

UltraLineHolder · 15/06/2024 11:22

Also have you been tested for chaotic hormone levels, this could be your answer re medication

UltraLineHolder · 15/06/2024 11:23

Also a decent laser machine should get rid of hairs of any colour and now on any skin type
Try Pulse Light Clinic and ask them for a consultation

I have quite a hairy face. I just epilate mine with the facial head on. I pluck the couple of witch's hairs that grow faster and thicker than the rest

Sorry I missed that, I did have an epilator quite a few years ago and didn't get on with it, it just made me flare up in horrendous spots. Tried and ipl machine too and just no results at all from that.

I tried an ipl machine and that didn't seem to do anything. The instructions said to fully shave first and that just ended up making regrowth awful and sharp and coarse.

I actually haven't, I do have some hormonal issues (had a hysterectomy due to endometriosis) but hadn't actually considered that!

I would be tempted to look at the cause and tackle it that way too. Very likely theres an hormonal issue.

fancysleep · 15/06/2024 16:01

Could you learn threading? I find thar effective

xyz111 · 15/06/2024 16:25

Definitely a trip to the GP. If your hormones are off, this could have an impact.

Genevie82 · 15/06/2024 19:36

mini facial wax strips, they can get really short hairs now. Every 2 weeks - wax them all off but agree ultimately hormone issues xx

Serenitymummy · 15/06/2024 20:34

Thanks all, I'll definitely look into this. Appreciate it

Home kits do absolutely nothing at all.. you do need to see a specialist. I provided the link above to a company that have machines which cost around £25,000..
State of the art tech and they do work.
The courses of treatment are very expensive but the consultation is free.
There are lots of places that will offer this but some might have machines which are 10 years old and won't work on fair hairs or non-Caucasian skin so shop around.

But most importantly get to the root of the problem first, it is most likely hormonal - especially if you have endo - and perhaps a few sessions of professional IPL after

orpmoa · 16/06/2024 11:05

spearmint tea meant to be great for this! controls the hormone levels

Serenitymummy · 21/07/2024 09:20

So I do have high testosterone, off to see an endocrinologist to see what's next.

Thanks for the update OP. I was going to suggest seeing a GP about hormones then I realised this was an old thread. Hopefully once your hormones are normalised, the hair will go, or at least lessen. best of luck.

RebelIdeas · 26/07/2024 18:26

@Serenitymummy
That will explain it then. I'm very hopeful that when your hormones are regulated things will sort themselves out. Keep us posted.
I think this thread will be useful for other women as well:

Have now been diagnosed with PCOS. Been prescribed metformin and a cream for my facial hair, so will see how that goes.
