Anyone else sick to death of handwashing?

I love natural fabrics and have lived in them for many years. But anything other than the weight of a tshirt really gets old fast when handwashing. Tonight it was time....had to throw a few linen sweaters into the basin and oh my god the weight! I have pretty much put my chest muscles out wringing the buggers. I don't envy women who had to mess with this shit daily in old times gone by.

Like I say, I am fine with lighter weight items, and cashmere isn't much of a problem but I can get really fed up with not just smashing it all into a mixed wash and forgetting it.

Then, it's June. Colder than usual but we don't have the central heating on, so there's this pile of wet crap all over the house, windows open, dripping on to towels, and that's after a severe handwringing.

I wouldn't risk a linen sweater in the wash, no matter who advised it, but maybe I will be more mindful of what I purchase in the future. I used to love Poetry, but JHChrist I have no idea how people wash that shit and still have a life!

Hang on, why is the wool cycle on my machine at 40 degrees? I’ve always turned it down to 30 but is that still too hot? I then also have a hand wash cycle that just says ‘cold’ - should I be using that for wool items instead?

I haven't handwashed anything in the last 15 years. It goes in the machine on delicates at the lowest spin. Cashmere, expensive underwear, dry clean only dresses. Everything comes out fine except my husbands suits. He has a Gresham Blake I reckon he'd divorce me over.

I also thought this was about washing hands!

Don’t handwash anything apart from swimsuits in the sink when in a hotel.

My linen things wash ok in the machine but I respect your care for your clothes and your caution. I washed a wool cardigan on a wool setting and it shrunk.

I have a wool / handwash on my machine, alongside being able to just spin, so everything goes into this cycle. I also use a special soap / detergent, which helps too. I've sometimes handwashed as only one item, but wring gently and spin, which has never led to an issue. Many labels say handwash as the fabric was not put through testing, or even pre-shrunk to save money. I even wash DH's suit trousers and never had an issue, unlike dry cleaning that kills the fabric and the pressing that finishes off the item!

I don't hand wash. It can either go on delicates in the washer or it's not purchased. Life's too short!

I have a Beko washing machine, it has a hand wash setting that offers 40/30/20 cold wash and also 1200/800/600 rinse hold (retains the water until you press the play button) and no spin setting. You can combine any of those options. I love that machine. Usual wash is a 1600 spin.

I never hand wash anything, I let the machine do it, same for rinsing anything, it has a rinse setting plus a drain and spin with different options.

I don't handwash anything. I put it all in my machine in a delicate wash at 30° with Ecover delicates detergent.
I actually wash things frequently, even cashmere. I'm a mucky pup & any dirt/hair etc. will attract moths.
Life is way too short to spend time washing clothes.
