Help! My hands (picture included)

This is my hand after moisturising this morning. Does anyone have advice for improving their appearance?

I already drink plenty of water and eat plenty of different plants, olive oil and oily fish. I keep moisturiser on my desk at work, but don’t use it as often as I wash my hands. I don’t have a clue about potions.

I’ve looked really hard and I’m not sure what you are worried about. Can you be more specific?

Mirandasbiggestfan · 10/06/2024 08:25

It just looks like a normal hand to me OP! Doesn’t look dry or wrinkly or anything.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 10/06/2024 08:25

It doesn't look dry or chapped. Does it feel worse than it looks?

Hewlet · 10/06/2024 09:09

Blimey, these responses are so interesting. I’ve always been aware of how wrinkly my knuckles are, and now the skin is generally quite wrinkled (but not in the big knuckle-cracked way).

im not sure how they feel.

Sunscreen on the backs of your hands. (Really wish I had done this…) Gloves when driving. Hand cream and cotton gloves overnight.

Hewlet · 10/06/2024 09:20

I think sunscreen is a biggie. I put it on when I do my face, but never reapply.

In fairness OP, we can't see your knuckles in that pic.

Agree though they just look like normal hands to me.

Hewlet · 10/06/2024 17:02

You can't see the knuckles in the photo?

MrMrsMoon · 10/06/2024 17:08

Nice hands! I can't see a problem.

Fgfgfg · 10/06/2024 17:09

How old is the hand?

If it was mine I 'd be happy. If I was 30 years younger, not so much.

TooPreciousToDoIt · 10/06/2024 17:11

Why is your thumb bit so white compare to the rest of the han, are you pressing that bit down or something?

How old are you? 22 then I’d say they are a bit wrinkled, heading for 40 then they’re fine. Although there was a cream someone on here was raving about, I will see if I can find the post.

Lacky301 · 10/06/2024 17:11

Nothing wrong with them you should see mine

I am an idiot- I forgot about base knuckles. I was just thinking about the mid and top knuckles, which I can't see!

In any event, they just look like normal knuckles to me.

Hewlet · 10/06/2024 17:50

I'm 44.

I'm not sure why there's a strange colour difference, perhaps pressing down on the bed or perhaps the lighting or perhaps the tan line. It's not something I can see now.

Hewlet · 10/06/2024 17:53

I've looked up the miracle cream and it's a bit out of my budget, but thank you.

Skin always get looser and a bit wrinkly as we age but your hands are fine, neurogenic Norwegian formula is great or lidl own brand.

Hewlet · 10/06/2024 19:31

This thread really is a revelation. My hands look just like my mum's and I've always thought them very aging. I will continue with more regular moisturising (and try to remember sun cream) and generally be more gracious towards them.

I'm 45 and my hands look the same as they always have. I think it's down to always wearing gloves when cleaning, ever since I was 11 or 12 and my mum first started giving me chores. I hated the feel of washing-up water so asked for gloves. I worked as a waitress for years and always brought gloves for when I had to do any washing up.

I don't use hand cream but I do use any excess body lotion or facial oil that's still on my hands when I'm done applying it.

I think your hands look fine btw

Motherrr · 12/06/2024 19:21

To me your hand looks good, skin looks supple and no wrinkles visible! We are all more critical of ourselves! But maybe you perceive things that we can't from a photo

IWantToBeASleepingCat · 12/06/2024 19:23

Do you exfoliate your hands? You would be surprised at the difference?
Then put some hand cream on and cotton gloves over night.

CJ0374 · 12/06/2024 19:31

Your hands look younger than 44 IMO!
I would have said you have Reynaud's based on that white thumb area, but you said its not normally like that 😕
I saw a documentary where they sucked fat out of a womans buttocks and injected into the back of her hands. They did look plumped up and 20yrs younger afterwards- BUT, the fat gets slowly reabsorbed and needs to be re-done, plus her hands were FAR more veiny and wrinkly than yours.

Coolblur · 12/06/2024 19:52

Following as I feel the dame about my hands. They look similar to yours. To me they are starting to look 'old' but I realise that's relative to how they used to look. I've started exfoliating and putting a rich hand cream on every night. Waiting to see if it makes a difference

Hewlet · 12/06/2024 20:16

Some of these comments are making me laugh now! "FAR more veiny and wrinkly than yours" Grin.

I think I do have Reynaud's, but never diagnosed. Even today I've been wearing fingerless gloves for typing at work.

I'm exfoliating my hands when I do my face, and reapplying moisturiser more often, but been rubbish at remembering sun screen.

Have you ever asked your GP? It can be associated with other medical issues, so I'd certainly be mentioning it, especially as you are wearing fingerless gloves in summer! Admittedly not a hot summer so far, depending where you live, but even so.
