Permanent make up - eyebrows

Blondog · 09/06/2024 12:36

I’m thinking of getting permanent make up eyebrows, not microblading. I barely have any of my own brows currently. I’ve read about the positives, what negatives should I be considering? If you had it done, were you happy with the results? Thank you!

It’s all about the practitioner. Seek someone highly recommended out, be prepared to pay up. Pay peanuts and you’ll get monkeys.

JadedPlant · 09/06/2024 13:18

Sophie Thorp at the Sarah Chapman clinic did mine in 2018 and while they could probably do with a top up I’m still very happy with them.

80smercedes · 09/06/2024 14:27

I had mine done 3 years ago - they were powder brows rather than microblading, as it was significantly cheaper. Best thing I have ever done! I rarely wear makeup but my eyebrows have completely transformed my face. I have very sparse eyebrows naturally now (due to massively overplucking them during the 90s!) and they now look full and shapely. I was advised they would need to be topped up every 6-12 months - I have only had them topped up once during the last 3 years and they are still looking fab. I would thoroughly recommend.

RosaRoja · 09/06/2024 14:38

There was a thread on S&B about how natural and thin eyebrows are coming back into fashion, so I’d bear this in mind.

MattDamon · 09/06/2024 14:54

It's a face tattoo. It doesn't go away naturally. They tend to fade to a dull grey or sometimes red.

Laser can remove some versions, but it can also leave a bright yellow stain on the skin that can never be removed. Have a read of some of the horrifying posts here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrobladingRemoval/

As per a PP, it's not really in style anymore anyway and can look quite dated/aging. Try using minoxidil or similar to grow your natural brows before doing something so permanent.

Blondog · 09/06/2024 15:52

Thanks for all the comments, really appreciate different aspects. I would be going for something subtle. I’m worried that they will be permanent, but in the other hand what I have now looks awful and I’m fed up of pencilling.

Microblading - yes or no http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/styleandd_beauty/5002200-microblading-yes-or-no

Oops posted too soon

Not sire on the difference between micro blading and PMU but assuming some similarities Have a look at this.

I bailed for the exact the reason @MattDamon gave

Face tattoo. No guaranteed .

TheHighPriestess1 · 09/06/2024 15:56

I’d stick with wax and tint to be honest with you. You can get fantastic results just from that.

thedendrochronologist · 09/06/2024 15:57

Also is a fashion looks along with lips and fillers - it's a conspicuous consumption thing.

safetyzone · 09/06/2024 16:26

For many older people who have very little brows left, it's not just a fashion fad. It can be done very naturally, imitating own hair for example. The key is to choose someone really good.

After many years of brow shaping and because of aging my brows were super sparse. Had it done last year and no regrets, they're natural enough that they don't look made up.

Blondog · 09/06/2024 18:15

@safetyzone I am in my 60s and considering for the same reasons as you, and for similar effect.

Thanks for everyone’s input.

First had mine done in my late 50's. My brows had become very, very sparse and no longer had a 'down tail'.

Terrified of anything going wrong, I went to https://karenbetts.com after reading about her in, of all things, Hello magazine. Absolutely brilliant.

Five years later they needed a top up and having already hit the shape I went to a local woman whose clients all raved about her and whose brows all looked great.

Both places showed me what they planned to do using a wax pencil so that I could see what I would be getting and make any adjustments. As it happened, none needed.

I would encourage anyone to have it done for fashion reasons but in my case, as PP, I really was lacking any eyebrows at all. It's great not to have to pencil them in every day. I have my lashes dyed at the same salon, it needed to be redone much more frequently.

KatharinaRosalie · 09/06/2024 20:38

I love mine. I have sparse fair hair, there isn't anything to shape and wax. Had them done years ago, no issues with colour change.

Blondog · 10/06/2024 07:11

@FinallyHere this is what I’m hoping for, I just don’t have anything to speak of to tint etc. It’s that I’m fed up of pencilling in.

@KatharinaRosalie good to know, thanks!

Look up fails. I've seen countless images where the black ink has faded into blue and brown which has faded to orange.

There was a man posting on here about his girlfriend in the last few months about the disaster of her brows and the various treatments she tried to reverse/remove it.

It dented her confidence immensely.

Dreemhouse · 10/06/2024 07:59

If you do your research and find somebody who’s work you can see, I would absolutely go for it. I had powder brows done years ago (looks more like makeup than natural brow hairs) and they haven’t faded to a horrible colour. They have faded but you wouldn’t know unless you rubbed my eyebrow hairs in the wrong direction. Brows really frame your face so go for it!

The thread was started FIVE years on from a disaster! Microblading removal stories http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/styleandd_beauty/4592971-microblading-removal-stories?msgid=-4592971#-4592971

There is another poster on ther who had her eyebrows tattooed Mckmck and she's posted a photo!

Horrendous! She looks like a clown.

Hopebridge · 10/06/2024 08:03

I hated them and had them removed. It was a long process. They looked good to start with but soon changed colour from brown to a grey colour. Looked blocky and made me feel very down about my appearance. I had to do a lot of removal procedures over 2-3 years which was expensive. Starting with x tract twice and then 2 laser removal's. Look at yellow brow lady. I wish I had seen her posts before I had mine done. Thankfully I didn't have this happen and mind went grey.

The thing I found hardest was the removal as I had to have serum and cling film on my eyebrows for weeks and try and hide under sunglasses and hats. I'm sorry I'm just trying to tell you a bad experience.

Now mine have recovered I have used a growth serum and had them dyed and embraced my natural eyebrows. They have grown significantly and I'm happy with them. I'm not going to have anything done to my face again after this experience.

You can get some amazing products like Maybelline tattoo brow which although not permanent temporarily stain the skin. I use this to stain my hairs and underneath.

Blondog · 10/06/2024 10:51

I will look into fails more, and do my research.

This is great for the tattoo brow look without being permanent. I leave it on for longer so it lasts. A safer way imo https://www.amazon.co.uk/Maybelline-Tattoo-Waterproof-Medium-Brown/dp/B07KGXT9M8/ref=ascdff_B07KGXT9M8/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310786520111&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8840050829047109832&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045325&hvtargid=pla-655076346694&psc=1&mcid=7ae59c4a3d2138f4bce12cc9c3cf02a5

EasterlyDirection · 10/06/2024 11:12

I had powder brows done about 5 years ago and no regrets, they have faded a bit but I use a brow fineliner to add tiny hairstrokes and a brow powder to add a touch of colour and they look great for next to no effort. I've never had them topped up and they are my natural shape, not thicker or with high arches, squared off ends or similar. I had lost about 95% of my brows to alopecia and as I am dark haired with fair skin I looked awful without them and drawing them in was hit and miss with no real existing browline to follow, it was really stressful trying to get them looking OK every morning and they would rub off if I got sweaty. I did a lot of research, the person I went to was not cheap but worth every penny.

Blondog · 10/06/2024 12:07

Thanks again for all replies, I’m finding them all really helpful.

A couple of PPs mention price - any suggestions what would be considered at the top end but worth it? (Outside London) Sorry, you can tell I am clueless.

Thanks for the link @Hopebridge will have a look. I’ve tried a few things but either they rub off, I get colour wrong, and don’t apply very well!
