Festival fashion

Has anyone got any nice bits for festivals this summer?

I want to plan my Glastonbury wardrobe - weather dependent - and would love links to fun brightly sparkly clothes.

A few caveats - I'm pushing 50 so no daisy dukes or crochet bra tops. It'll probably all be covered up under a raincoat anyway!

I just bought this. I'm in my 60s, I'd wear it with blue jeans and a vest.

I have bought quite a bit on Vinted, we are going to the Isle of Wight festival. Agree we are probably going to need waterproofs more, I have bought pink Croc wellies and a rainbow poncho 😂

I did spend more on a maxi dress from Joanie clothing in their Dawn O Porter collection, they also quite a few things on clearance at the moment with hippy/flower power vibes https://joanieclothing.com/

Just wear clothes you like, that suit your normal style and are fit for purpose ie the weather, the crowds and going to the toilet in a portaloo.

I have been going to festivals for decades and you can always spot the difference between the people who think festivals are a fancy dress opportunity and those who are thinking about the reality. The fancy dressers have usually got their sparkly, dangly top caught on the person crushed up behind them and it's torn, or their peacock feathers have trailed in the shitty loo or their bejewelled footwear is encrusted in mud and they've got blisters or the cold shoulder top with band they've never seen on the front, means sunburn.

I'm sorry to be a total misery, but fast fashion eg buying clothes for one event because they are "fun and sparkly" is an attitude to get away from.

What have you got in your wardrobe already that has secure pockets, light and breathable clothing with good coverage for high UV. Do you have something for rain? Footwear which copes with mud? Think about what you need first. Then what is your style? What do you normally feel comfortable wearing? Is that stuff suitable for the festival? What might you need to add?

Are you going to the whole thing or just one day?

I am trying to work out why this annoys me every year op.

I apologise if I sound grumpy.

I go to festivals a lot and I dress in quite a hippy way as I'm a pacifistic, tie-dyer who listens to folk music and generally just lives this kind of lifestyle. It's who I am and so much of how we dress shows our identity, beliefs, backgrounds etc.

I suppose it feels a bit like me dressing up in a Breton top, ankle grazing joules jeans and a seasalt jacket whilst parading round the North Norfolk coast pretending to be somebody I'm not.

It feels like people are taking the piss out of me tbh.

(I know you're not op)

@ShowOfHands makes some good points, we are in a pre-pitched tent with proper beds and have paid extra for access to proper clean toilets, We definitely will be taking plenty of sun screen and refillable water bottles as well as waterproof and warm things to cover all bases.

I have tried to source as much as possible secondhand and the new things are stuff I will use again.

Oh I know, this will be my 14th Glasto but it's nice to wear a colourful top as it's meant to be summer after all!

Also I'm volunteering there this year so have an extended stay of almost a week on site.

I'm going to download so I don't think the vibe is quite the same 😅 But I'm just packing leggings, shorts, tights and ts this year. Oh and my waterproof poncho! It was 28 degrees last year and this year not touching 20 and probably raining!

My good friend goes to Download and her packing list is almost identical! Plus boots.

Docs for the wet, converse if it's dry (hahahahaha) and sliders for the loo run!

I'm also pushing 50 and off to Glastonbury. I've been every year since 2005, and once in the 90s but I barely remember that. It's so hard to plan outfits without knowing the weather, and I'm trying not to buy stuff this year, just a few vintage bits off eBay if I find anything good. I worked in music for years and have been to loads of festivals so I have enough in my wardrobe. So I don't have lots of links to stuff unfortunately, though I did see some nice bit pop up on wolf and badger, maybe good looking there? I've got various bit on my list that I might wear depending on the weather - a paco rabanne gold sequin bra with purple satin wide leg trousers and ankle boots, I have a gold long crochet dress, a pink chiffon dress a bit Molly goddard-esque, a leopard minidress, and even a leather harness I might wear... however if it's a mud bath then I'll be in a long raincoat and wellies and hoodies and trying to stay as warm and dry as possible and all that will be staying in the van! But if it's sunny, I'll be going for it. It's the best party in the world, and dressing up is part of the fun for me and always has been.
