Arch support sandals & trainers for Plantar Fasciitis

Airworld · 09/06/2024 08:59

I have had intermittent plantar fasciitis for quite a few years and have found shoes very much trial and error.

FitFlops have been great but their prices have skyrocketed since Covid and are no longer particularly affordable, and even their sale prices are still £££ (I do look on Amazon etc too).

So, I’m just interested in any other brands for comparison to try where someone has PF and has found some comfortable but reasonably priced sandals and casual trainers please (up to £50-70).

Sandals - I’m looking for a smartish pair as I already have a pair of Fitville walking sandals.

Trainers -looking for casual as I already have Nike Air ones that are good for lots of walking.

Not skechers! They are terrible for foot problems , they get recommended as they as "so comfy" but they do not offer the correct support ( I've had ankle surgery and I'm under one of the best surgeons)
You can see an orthotic specialist who can make insoles to fit your foot, it's not cheap speak to your GP

BubblePerm · 09/06/2024 16:27

I have splashed out on Brooks for my poor feet, but I considered ASICS.
I've seen them on the Decathlon site within your budget, so if you could get to a store to try some on, they might be what you are looking for.

RaininSummer · 09/06/2024 16:42

I agree about getting proper orthotics. Mine cost 300 quid and seem to last 2 years as just waiting on replacements as old ones have eroded and are giving me blisters. Feet are suffering without them even in my fit flops.

RaininSummer · 09/06/2024 16:43

Should add that NHS might provide them but I was told it's a year's wait.

Gingernaut · 09/06/2024 16:49

Scholl do a plantar fasciitis insole/orthotic

About £20 from Boots and pretty effective - no use for sandals though

No one thing will work though, I've got a collection of mix and match insoles, padding and shoes, which vary between shoes and severity of pain symptoms

Airworld · 09/06/2024 17:13

@scrapsontheside @RaininSummer sorry I should have mentioned that I’ve had about 5 pairs of orthotics made over the years - both NHS and private podiatrist - and all have made the problem worse. When I’ve had well-fitted and supportive shoes I’ve been able to manage the condition.

Also, yes I’ve heard that Skechers are frequently a culprit yet they get recommended so much. Before I had foot problems I had two pairs of them but I found they wore out rapidly and just weren’t worth the money at all.

@BubblePerm I did hear about Brooks so I’ll have a look at Decathlon thanks.

I've had terrible PF for years and can walk in these all day

I wear shoes from Hotters. My podiatrist said to me to wear shoes all the time - even if nipping to the loo in the night. I use Hotters deck shoes as slippers. It's been two years now and made a massive difference.

Howareu · 09/06/2024 17:23

I usually wear vionic trainers. They’re around £100, but I look out for them when they’re on sale and can get them around £50.
i also wear Archie’s flip flops.

MsSorrento · 09/06/2024 17:24

Different shoes or insoles work for different people, and I've tried many with varying success. Nothing gives me the relief as much as my various sketchers including my sketchers slippers at home. Such a painful condition.

waltzingparrot · 09/06/2024 17:27

I suppose everyone is different. I had PF 3-4 years ago but I've worn Skechers ArchFit brand for three years now and haven't had any reoccurrence since. Not ordinary Skechers, ArchFit Skechers with built in support.

OhMyGiddyAunt · 09/06/2024 17:28

You can buy FitFlop on M&M Direct for under £50 - I bought some of Rally trainers from there recently

I have skechers arch fit and they have kept my PF at bay. I would defo recommend them.

OP, for sandals birkenstocks are perfect, and I also have some fitflops from a brand called archies which have arch support.

worcesterpear · 09/06/2024 17:28

I was going to suggest Nike Air for trainers, the comfiest pair I've ever owned were a white leather pair with sparkles on. I see you've already got some though, and they are expensive, but its always worth looking for the offers on the Nike website. My sandals at the moment are from Hotter, not sure if they are a bit old fashioned but they are leather and look reasonably smart. Again Hotter are expensive but they do 20% off quite often, and also reduced lines.

Eminybob · 09/06/2024 17:29

I didnt mean fitflops, just flip flops.

ASighMadeOfStone · 09/06/2024 17:29

To throw a spanner...the specialist I saw recommended Skechers Arch Fit.
I wear them and Fitflop Rally trainers (buy a new pair every year as I wear them every day- always in the sales, never from Fitflop themselves- Amazon usually)
Ecco and Hotters also great.

(Prior to this I'd had orthotics made and spent an absolute fortune)

I'd also recommend Teva.
Hurricanes not Originals. You should be able to get them cheaper than the 70 quid headline price, Sports Direct do them for 52.

Arch support sandals & trainers for Plantar Fasciitis
Sago1 · 09/06/2024 17:40

I had dreadful PF.
I mentioned it to my acupuncturist and she treated it the following week.
1 session 6 years ago and it’s never returned.
I recently attended a talk by an eminent Chinese doctor who mentioned PF and how well it responds to acupuncture.
I was charged £45.

mejon · 09/06/2024 17:55

Despite wearing Fitflop Rally trainers for several years, I got agonising PF after wearing them and being on my feet all day just before Christmas. I've bought arch support insoles which help but I've got some leather trainers from Strive Footwear (can't link at the moment as it's telling me the site is unsafe?) On first wearing, the arch support seemed very hard and stiff, but I've persevered and they've been great so far.

Vionics mule slippers are what I wear with PF (recovered).

WoolyMammoth55 · 09/06/2024 18:01

I have a very trendy friend in her mid 30s who swears by these foam Birkenstocks for her PF

But I am early 40s and not sure I could pull them off! 😆

pepperaunt · 09/06/2024 18:24

Ugh just got diagnosed with PF. How can it be so painful??? My doctor recommended Hokas. They’re expensive but I can actually walk in them. May check out those Tevas for summer
