HAIR DYED TOO DARK

Hi, I've coloured my hair today and it's slightly too dark! I normally have someone do it for me but they are away and It's not awful but slightly darker in some places then others.
Does anyone know the best thing to lighten it? Which shampoo please?
Is it just a case of keep washing?
Thanks x

Did you use a box dye? I use casting colours which is just a semi, but I buy colours much lighter for this reason. A light brown comes our dark for example, a dark brown would come out almost black!
Is yours a permanent colour? I don't know any quick fix I'm afraid, but a hopeful bump someone else can help.

I've only ever got rid of too-dark dye with Colour B4. It's disgusting stuff though.

Ok take a deep breath, it can be fixed. Don’t rush and make it worse.

We need to know:

Permanent or semi? A semi will fade a lot over your next few shampoos.

You can get colour remover (don’t buy a colour stripper which has bleach in it) - most removers only work on permanent but some eg Superdrug Colour Rewind work for both perm and semi.

Harsh shampoo like Head and Shoulders will take semi permanent down a lot over a few washes.

Do not be tempted to use a lighter dye - colour can’t lift colour and you’ll just add layers and it will look darker.

You’ve got a chance at fading it if it’s semi but a permanent will need the colour remover. They work but you have to follow the instructions to the letter, especially the never-ending rinsing time!

Thanks for the replies!
I was so close to getting semi permanent but ended up getting the permanent L'Oréal excellence universal nude in universal light brown which it isn't! It isn't too patchy just a bit darker on the ends but not too noticeable.
My hair does fade with washing as everyone's does but I was hoping maybe if I washed daily with say head and shoulders or a clarifying shampoo it could help?

Yes that will help, just make sure to condition really well as I find all the washing really dries my hair out.

Sounds like it’s grabbed on the ends - it often does as they are both drier and darker anyway. It will fade a bit with Head and Shoulders but likely to fade all over so the ends will still look darker compared to the rest, IYSYIM.

Like PP said, boxes always come out a shade darker than they say - light brown is medium/dark and medium all but black!

Sounds like you can live with it if it fades a bit? Give it a few washes and a good condition. Good luck!

i made a paste of head and shoulders and crushed vitamin c tablets. left on for 30 minutes, heated it for 5 minutes at the end with a hairdryer (plastic bag over my head) and a lot of the colour washed out, enough to make it natural.

Washing up liquid works well.

I had to start going to a hair dresser as whatever brown I bought it went too dark. I think my hair just sucks it all in. I have highlights now to lift it as I’m getting older and my face can’t handle the dark brown.
