hi. me and dh are going on one night/two days to a big 5 star posh hotel to celebrate out 10th wedding anniversay.

i have no idea what to wear...i'm never out of jeans! we'll be in the health spa thing in the day, and are going for dinner in the evening in one of the hotel restaurants.

i hate feeling dressed up, and would describe my style as "funkily scruffy" ! i like joe browns type stuff....

i'm 5'6, curvy size 10 (huge norks), have short bobbed highlighted hair and pale skin....

oh, and a teeny tiny budget!!! any suggestions most welcome please.
thanks.

OK, I'm not a style-type person by any means, but I've just had the experience of shopping with dp for a wedding we're going to - she's a jeans person as well and hates wearing 'posh' things.

But, we found some lovely linen trousers in Principles in Debs - and they're everywhere at the moment. She'll wear brown sandals with them, a vest top and then a lovely lacey but not too fancy cream cardi with one button thingy over the top - also from Principles.

Hmm. Probably not described that very well but it looks good and she doesn't feel like an alien 'cos she's still in trousers!

So, something like these (although these weren't the ones dp got - hers were more straight but still quite wide)

trousers

with maybe something like this - good for the norkage

i think something you will wear again is a good idea

some very nice trousers and a top/cardi would be good. And heels - as you are in the hotel, id go for strappy heels - they will make you feel sexy and dressed up

you could wear very nice jeans (black or very dark blue) with black or darkk blue strappy shoes - and then choose a top to go with them

and fab underwear of course!

thanks for your replies girls.

have remembere about a lovely black cardi i wore once to a wedding...wonder if i could wear thatwith some black wide leg trews?? will need to find some shoes though....i have a wide array of funky chunky shoes...but nothing girly at all!!!!

dotty....if your dp is anything remotely like me, i'll bet you had a NIGHTMARE buying her weding outfit!!! you poor woman!

thanks again.

Why not stick with that black cardi you've got and buy a plain black dress?

There's a good example here: www.marksandspencer.com/gp/product/B0015DYQJM/sr=1-4/qid=1207655980/ref=sr_1_4/202-6279737-5617403?i e=UTF8&node=&m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&keywords=&mnSBrand=core&size=9&rh=n%3A43091030%2Cp%5F10%3ABlack&page=1.

Go with something like that, but treat yourself to truly funky necklace which reflects your style.

For instance:
www.notonthehighstreet.com/caroleallenjewellery/product/kynance_pendant

That way you'll feel dressed up but still yourself and you won't look like every other woman in the room, plus you'll have a lovely necklace to remind you of your fab weekend.

Have a great time.

Patsy

PS: You must get some lovely undies!

PatsyCline · 08/04/2008 16:03

Sorry, meant to say that necklace idea would also apply to cardi with black trousers.
