Skin & Me vs Dermatica

I'm going to try one of these brands, never having used them before.
But, I'm not sure which one is better as a subscription model.
Has anyone used both and has more of a preference for one over the other?
I'm mainly using it for lines/wrinkles etc, do the actually work?
Happy to subscribe at £20 a month but does it stay at that figure or do you end up increasing it?
I can't seem to find any unbiased reviews on google so if you have any experience I'd love to know

Neither, go for Uncouth! I switched from dermatica to Uncouth and the formula is so much nicer

TheOGCCL · 08/06/2024 13:12

I think they are all really similar. The cost shouldn't keep rising. I'd check the size of the doses as I think one might be smaller. I'm with Dermatica and you can hold off your next despatch so you can sometimes extend out so it's not literally 12 x a year. I just think these services, if you can afford them, are incomparable to anything you can find OTC.

TretQueenie · 08/06/2024 13:48

I use both and lots of opportunities for discounts. I’ve been using tretinoin for 6 mths and I get a lot of positive comments on my complexion. There are also some Tretinoin Facebook groups which are really helpful. Here are two discount codes:

This is interesting. An excerpt from a clinical study comparing tretinoin with OTC products.

Sounds as if there's no discernible difference in results 🤔

Just to also add the skin and me comes as a daily doser and you can see exactly how much is left as it counts down the days.

For dermatica, you can dispatch as much as you want. I’m still on my first month of using dermatica and I use two generous pumps of it per month; it’s lasting a long time! I’m currently on 0.025 tretinoin and skin coping fairly well.

Very interesting. I’ve requested a copy of the full text. It’s a very small study so I’d be a bit cautious about it. Would be good if over the counter stuff is as good as the prescription cream.

justjudy · 08/06/2024 14:25

I've been using Skin & Me for nearly 3 months. Whilst it's cheap for the introductory offer - something like £4.99 for the daily doser, moisturiser, cleanser, serum and SPF - it's expensive to maintain thereafter.

My latest order was for everything except the SPF and it cost me £75. The doser lasts for a month, everything else 2 months.

Of course, you could use other products with the doser but for me, it's the best cleanser and moisturiser I've used so I'm stuck with most of that cost.

TretQueenie · 08/06/2024 14:45

I’ve only used the sample versions of the skin and me cleanser, moisturiser and spf. I figured I could buy better elsewhere. I didn’t find them impressive in any way.

I had pretty good skin to begin with and my cleanser of choice was baby lotion and random moisturisers like oil of olay. I’m still not convinced by a lot of the marketing guff around skin care and spf is probably one of the most useful things, if you’re going to do anything.

Surely two pumps a month won’t do any good?

TretQueenie · 08/06/2024 14:55

My mistake😀 Two pumps a day!

£20 a month? It’s £24.99 a month with Dermatica. A few months ago they reduced the amount from 15 ml to 12.5ml without reducing the price. There were a lot of complaints at the time, including from me, but although they were apologetic they said they couldn’t help it.They are very good to deal with, though, and the Tretinoin and niacinamide mix does help reduce fine lines , and evens up my complexion. I think Skin and me is very similar but a little more expensive.
what annoys me is that tretinoin is much cheaper and available otc in Europe! I wish it were available otc in the U.K. You can order it from abroad, but I worry about the security of the sites as some want transfers, not payment with card.

What you buy in the shops is nowhere near the strength of prescribed Tretinoin. The otc products state 2% retinol, which can be confusing, but it is not as strong as 0.05% of Tretinoin.

Shuttheblinds · 08/06/2024 15:14

I was using Skin and Me and switched to Dermatica. The Skin + Me was stinging my skin. I find Dermatica much better and really like their cleansers and moisturiser too. Also tret has shown to be not fully effective until you use 0.05 strength or above. Dermatica prescribe up to 1% and allows you to move up strengths quicker so I preferred it. I don’t have any irritation from it either and my skin has improved massively. If you go for any of them get someone who is using it to give you a voucher code so you get your first month at 2.95 and 10% of third month. Happy to share mine if you want it, just pm me.

twiddlingthumbs69 · 08/06/2024 15:20

@Bignanna that's what I thought until I read the study by Research Gate that I've linked.
I did cross reference it with similar clinical studies and they all gave the same results.
Would have been helpful if they'd stated which otc products they used but they do state the ingredients.

pietut · 08/06/2024 15:20

I've heard the levels of Tret are higher in Dermatica.

twiddlingthumbs69 · 08/06/2024 15:23

@TretQueenie I was mightily surprised when I read it. I crossed reference with another two studies that have been done, all giving similar results.
I beginning to wonder if we've been thinking that Tret is the holy grail for so long we didn't notice the newer, comparible, products creeping up behind.
Anyway, would be very interesting to hear your thoughts on it

I have used all three. Started on Dermatica, moved to Skin & Me and now use Uncouth. Uncouth is the best of the bunch for me. Have a code if anyone wants!

How many mls in the tube and what is the price each month?

It’s 30ml and lasts two months minimum. I find mine lasts more like 9-10 weeks and you can change the delivery date to match whatever frequency you prefer. It’s £48.50 so £24.25 a month but less as it does stretch longer.

LastRites · 08/06/2024 16:02

I use Dermatica and I love it. I had awful hormonal acne and it has completely disappeared - and the occasional spot that does break through clears up in a day. I no longer wear much make up as my skin is so clear. Mine is a mix of antibiotic, niacinamide and adapalene (which is a retinol). I had some stinging and skin shedding at first and again when they upped the retinol but now it’s perfect, although I do have to use a very gentle cleanser and thick moisturiser to avoid dry skin.

TattiePants · 08/06/2024 17:02

I can’t comment on Skin & Me but I’ve been using Dermatica for years and I’m really happy with the formulation and customer services. I use it 5 or 6 nights per week and a tube lasts me close to 6 weeks which makes it even cheaper. If you use a referral code you’ll get a credit for your second month and your own referral code. I’ve only ever shared my code on MN and have had £200+ in credit. I currently have £100 in credit so my next prescriptions are free.

Shuttheblinds · 08/06/2024 22:51

I didn’t realise you could share your discount code. Here is mine if anybody wants to use it, you will get your first order £10 cheaper. Just complete the questionaire and when you get to check out paste this discount code in:

I have been using Dermatica for over 2 years for rosacea. I like the clean texture of the cream, the fact that I can delay the next tube as I use it every other night as maintenance now.
Wish I had found it 30 years ago!
Here is my code if anyone would like to try it.

I’ve used both (Skin&Me and Dermatica) and prefer the latter - their formula ‘suits’ me better and their customer service is spot on. They were happy to discuss and tweak it after my GP recommended adding something.
I use mine 3-4 nights per week and get 7 weeks out of a tube.

I've used skin&me but stopped for summer. After 4 months of using it I didn't notice much difference.
