I've ruined myself by treating myself to the Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm, and it's my holy grail. I love it, my skin loves it.

But is there something a little less expensive out there that I'm missing?

I use Clinique take the day off, it's pretty good.

Simple cleansing purifying lotion

Peridot1 · 06/06/2024 13:42

I’m liking the Nip & Fab cleansing balm in the yellow pot. Nice and gentle.

Roundaboot · 06/06/2024 13:42

I'm with you - I had a small pot of the Emma Hardie in an M&S calendar years ago and loved it but I just can't justify it! I have seen it in TK Maxx for less than RRP so worth looking out for if you're able to.

I really like the Aldi cleansing balm (which is supposed to be a dupe of the Elemis one) but I don't think that's available all the time.

The Weleda Skin Food one is really nice as well.

Cetaphil gentle cleanser- my hg!!!

Body shop camomile cleansing balm

BuggeryBumFlaps · 06/06/2024 13:46

I've had 2 tubs of Elemis cleaning balm, the rose and lemon ones that came as part of a bulk buy. I've never used cleansing balms before but these are a revelation. I'm gutted I've almost finished the second one as they aren't cheap at almost £50

My absolute favourite, but a bit of a treat, is the Temple Spa In the Beginning cleansing balm. It’s £45 i think, but it lasts me ages as I can’t use it everyday. Smells INCREDIBLE. They occasionally do an offer on it.

Boots No7 do a really nice one in a tub, but I can’t remember which one it is.

Current everyday favourite balm is Weleda Skin Food cleansing balm - got it on offer in Asda. It’s in a metal squeeze tube, and you use water to rinse it off rather than using a cloth.

ASighMadeOfStone · 06/06/2024 13:59

The N7 balm is excellent. The Sali Hughes is reasonably priced and is more of a thick gel cream than a waxy balm. I haven't tried it but Inky List oat cleanser is supposed to be nice.

If you just want a cleanser rather than a balm, then CeraVe is the dermatologist gold standard. I use the oil for dry skin. Superdrug vitamin E is good too.

Thing is, with cleansers, though it's nice to have a luxurious, gorgeous smelling one, they're there to do one job. Take the muck and makeup off. They aren't on your face long enough to do anything else. Literally. They can have amazing sounding ingredients, extracts, anti -ageing claims, but they just take your make up off at the end of the day.

Neutrogena pink grapefruit face wash. Does a very good job of removing a full face of makeup at the end of the day, no need for double cleansing.

3peassuit · 06/06/2024 14:23

I use aqueous cream. It’s about £4 for a huge tub, it’s suitable for all skin types barring eczema. With the money saved I can splurge on serum and moisturiser.

GerbilsForever24 · 06/06/2024 14:25

Farmacy Green Clean is a smidgeon cheaper (I normally buy it with the SALICB code on cult beauty). The Body Shop Chamomile one referenced above is a good cheaper version.

Elemis pro-collagen cleansing balm x

saturnspinkhoop · 06/06/2024 14:31

Elf make up melting cleansing balm. It hasn’t aggravated my acne prone skin. It hasn’t made it oilier and it hasn’t dried it out. I think it may actually be helpful to my skin.

Corally · 06/06/2024 14:37

Ooh liking this thread. Can anyone recommend one which is good for sensitive rosacea/acne skin?

TretQueenie · 06/06/2024 14:45

Superdrug do a cleansing balm which seems very similar to Clinique’s at around £16 but also sell smaller tubs. I’ve used Cerave foaming cleanser but leaves skin tight. I’ve also got Aldi’s hot cloth cleanser on the go (smells very chemical) and Garnier rose cleansing milk as my skin is adjusting to tretinoin and other stuff I’m randomly putting on it.

As someone correctly said above, cleanser is on your skin momentarily, I’d save my money for active treatments.

Nicest one I’ve used is a cleansing oil by Disciple, only because it was reduced to £4 in JL. I’d buy it again as smelled lovely.

Pretty much all of the above apart from cleansing milk have been rubbish at removing eye make up and Sali Huges Revolution cleansing balm stings your eyes.

Baby lotion is best thing ever for removing eye make-up in my view. I used baby lotion as a general cleanser for years and don’t think my skin is any better from using other (more expensive) things.

Iheartmysmart · 06/06/2024 14:51

I also love the EH one but can’t justify the cost. At the moment I’m using Upcircle cleansing balm which smells lovely and hasn’t yet made my acne prone skin break out.

AstonMartha · 06/06/2024 14:53

Oh I came to say Emma Hardie. So nope! No suggestions for an alternative!

Grandmasswagbag · 06/06/2024 14:53

M&S pure rose cleansing balm is very similar to that Emma Hardy one. I love that but can't justify the £ and have been using the m&S one for several years. It's absolutely great and only 12.50!

Poggishairtufts · 06/06/2024 14:54

I like the kiehl's midnight oil

Netaporter · 06/06/2024 14:58

Elemis is my fave but I use The Inkey List Oat cleansing balm if I’m less flush.

Catnipcupcakes · 06/06/2024 15:11

Pai Middlemist seven is my absolute favourite. Its £34 (I get it for £29 on amazon S&S) felles very ‘grown up’ - made of all natural oils (including camellia oil, which I love) in airless pump packaging.

If I’m honest Cetaphil works just as well for me and is about a third of the price so I use that regularly too but the bottle is awful, looks cheap and vaguely medical. Also it contains a lot of synthetic waxes, parabens etc. I’m not sure how concerned I should be about that.

I use both with the ‘hot cloth’ method.
