I’m on the no buy thread and think one of the issues fuelling my clothes shopping is that my tastes and preferences change, partly as I get older and partly as although you would not say I was overtly fashionable, I do respond to trends. I want to stay reasonably current.
For example last year skinny jeans started to feel really wrong (and I bought boyfriend jeans) but this year I’ve rediscovered my love for them. As my aged middle spreads, I have also been seeking a slightly higher rise on bottoms. Some of the cardigans I have owned and loved for years feel a bit twee as neat cardigans are less common. I still feel like my smart to casual ratio is off following the pandemic. And I haven’t really changed dress size in my adult life which I know others have to deal with. I just don’t get how I could buy stuff once and be happy forever, even if it was amazing quality.
I do have a good idea what suits me, as an inverted triangle (so yeah so not the skinnies maybe!), a natural classic and an Autumn. None of that seems to help much.
How do others manage to feel true to their clothes and their style over years and years?
