Self tan help

MegsNaiceJam · 06/06/2024 01:16

I have very white skin, it is practically blue. Nordic heritage.
After years of wearing trousers I have changed to wearing skirts more often, particularly for work. But my legs look like I am a ghost.

I am a complete newbie to self tan, and I am crap at all things beauty. I worry about streaks or making a mess of it.

Any tips and advice welcome for an inexpensive product that is simple to use.

Garnier summer body .Get the light one. Use it on clean but not recently moisturised skin. Rub it in well and evenly, taking care not to use too much on ankle bones. It gives a nice natural looking golden glow that you can build up over a few days if you want to. Often on offer somewhere.

Yeah a gradual tan moisturiser

Thehitskeeponcoming · 06/06/2024 04:09

Skinny tan do a great gradual tan moisturiser.

I’ve been using the one from Alba Botanical recently too. The tube is freaking tiny though.

if you need something instant I’m still a fan of Sally Hansens airbrush legs.

if I had all the money in the world I’d spray tan but it gets expensive because it’s addictive. This is a vocation/gift and not all spray tanners are equally talented. Look for someone pale, who is not orange!!

Other options are the very sheer toeless tights from M&S. I love wearing them! I’m blue pale like you and they make me look like I’ve seen the sun. They don’t look as natural on people with a tan.

also consider the sun protection lotions with a light self tanning base. I found Nivia Sun Protect and Bronze good.

The dove gradual tan mousse is great. I am similarly blue tinged and this is the only one I've ever used which makes me look a bit more human and that I can use properly without going streaky.

You don't need much, a little mousse goes a long way.

It comes in 2 shades so make sure you get the fair to medium one, not the dark.

I am naturally red head and paler skin but obsessed with fake tan! I find preparation of your skin is key too. Make sure you exfoliate, I like the exfoliating gloves. Then moisturise the dry bits of skin: elbows, knees, hands and feet. Then like others suggest-use a gradual moisturiser overnight. It builds slowly and pretty foolproof. I use the Dove one every few days.

St Tropez have a mousse that is for blue pale skin! Saw an ad this morning

@urbanbuddha @lonelyo I am also whiter than white and I find I have to add some moisturiser to the gradual tan (Garnier) otherwise it tans me too fast and I get some streaks. I use 50:50 moisturizer to gradual tan. Do you ever have to do that?

I also like the isle of paradise face tan mist I find that works really well over moisturised skin.

Chypre · 06/06/2024 13:09

Modern self tanning products are easy! As long as you have a mitt (I have random from Amazon) you will be fine. The mousse/foam ones are the easiest - 1 pump per limb on a mitt at a time, and you’re glowing.

Superstoria · 06/06/2024 13:10

St Tropez mousse! Use more than you think, not less- the streaks are when you miss bits :)

To fly in the face of other advice on this thread, I always use the dark to medium gradual tanners, as I find they are more brown coloured and less orangey. Just use sparingly

Bondi sands technocolour in sapphire is especially for cool toned skin (sometimes even light tan can be orange, it’s just the wrong tone) Just leave on for an hour and wash off, it’s really good.

Thanks everyone, much appreciated. I’ll have a look at some of the recommendations. Waves hello to my fellow blue white gang!

Savers do some self tan wipes, they are pretty fool proof.
