Oily face - powder recommendations!

midlifepisces · 05/06/2024 22:47

Summer is sort of here again and what with wearing sunscreen and the warmer weather my face is incredibly oily and shiny within minutes of leaving the house.

My last pressed powder - Clinique - ran out over winter.

Should I get it again or something else?

I've had the Charlotte tilbury one before, I quite liked it but I don't remember it being the holy grail like lots of people say.

Seen Fenty Beauty powder recommended?

Tell me what to get! A bit of light colour coverage would be nice rather than those white powders I think. Also it must be pressed in a compact.

I've got oily skin and have recently bought Laura Geller foundation powder, which I apply with a brush. It does not move, you can apply as much or as little as you, depending on the coverage you choose.

I bought it on offer at QVC, I will certainly buy more when it runs out, I'm very impressed by it.

I have really oily skin and love the Laura Mercia translucent powder. I also tried the CT one and agree with you, it was nothing special. I used the Chanel one for a few years but since trying the Laura Mercia one I wouldn’t go back to it.

The hourglass loose powder is amazing.

Milk of magnesia

Apply lightly with a cotton wool ball, just lighly brush over, you dont want to see it. Let it dry, apply make up

I swear by Rimmel Stay Matte.

midlifepisces · 06/06/2024 07:51

Thanks for these - I will investigate. I probably can't buy anything from qvc though because I'm very fair so often struggle with shades. Rimmel I have heard recommended but part of me can't believe it can be good and so cheap!!

In case you choose to try Laura Geller, here's a discount code FLSH4

SwayingInTime · 06/06/2024 08:03

The Laura Geller one makes me look slightly ghostly but I love the texture so much I don't mind. My mum chose it without me there so I assume it the palest!

Thisbastardcomputer · 06/06/2024 08:08

Sorry I didn't mention the code is for the Laura Geller direct not QVC

Get the heliocare factor 50 oil free moisturiser, it's brilliant.

Geneticsbunny · 06/06/2024 08:25

Using niacinamide daily for a few months sorted out my oily bits.

OldTinHat · 06/06/2024 08:30

I have oily skin. After many (many!) years, I've discovered Boots No7 spray mattifying stuff. You spray it on after putting on make up and it really helps with shine control.

WhereAreWeNow · 06/06/2024 08:44

I'm very oily and swear by Bare Minerals mineral veil pressed powder. I also use face blotting paper when I'm out and about - better than just putting more make up on top of the grease!

This is my go-to as well. I keep trying others and coming back to it.

Deathraystare · 06/06/2024 10:20

Ditto Laura Geller, also ditto Rimmel Stay Matte and also Soap and Glory Heck of a blot plus the Mac one.

I do have this! But I don't like it for day to day. I use the frezyderm which is like a primer. I went looking for powders yesterday but found it really hard to find a colour that worked and the shop near me didn't have that many options 😒 will try again

Which shade of Rimmel shall I get?? I'm ordering online since it's not expensive. I'm roughly an N25. I get the light version of the Charlotte Tilbury. I was thinking 003 peach glow? Thanks!!

Another vote for Laura Mercier - honestly don’t bother wasting your money on the others because once you try this one you won’t go back. It’s so finely milled it’s super light but really does its job.

I also like the Huda beauty ones - I use the pink one for brightening under eyes.

Are you talking about the ultra blur powder or a different one?

This one…you can get a mini of it if you wanted to try it out.

Ok thanks. I really can't have a loose powder knocking about in my bag though. I need it for touch ups during the day. Is the pressed version of the Laura mercier any good?
