Hair curling help needed

My hairdresser curled my hair beautifully using straighteners but when I try at home it is a disaster. I can do some of it but then it just all goes wrong. It’s just below shoulder length. Can anyone recommend an easy way to curl it that doesn’t cost a fortune?

Imagine you're curling a ribbon with scissors. That's how I do it

I use a Heatless curl band, put in when hair is still a-bit damp and either wear all day or sleep in it, i get lovely curls that drop to lovely waves that last three days. Cheap on amazon but go for a soft one not the hard tube sort. You can-also use a dressing gown cord but as my hair is only shoulder length i prefer the band.

Similar to the above, DD uses what we named the 'octocurl' because it has 8 legs. It comes up as octocurl on google funnily enough.
She has long hair and puts it in damp hair - sometimes a blast with a hairdryer when it's in to help dry - and leaves in overnight.
Curls last 3 days possibly longer.
She loves it despite being wary at first.
She can put it in her hair in less than 10 minutes now and uses it every time she does her hair

Same here, only my hairdresser can do amazing straightener curls, but when I try, it looks like a frizzy m

*mess. Sock bun curls overnight worked out ok, but nothing beats the hairdressers skills

You have to get the angle right - I watched a few YouTube videos to get the gist of it and now I find it really easy

This! DD does this every night and always has the most lovely, bouncy waves. Super easy, only takes 2 mins. Genuinely on par with hairdresser curls and they last far longer
