Help!! I'm doing a long walking challenge. Last year my PF was so bad in the evenings after work I was considering crutches. However, its a lot better now although getting niggles still. I bought a pair of Fitflops from M and M direct in the sale and they were good, however they're worn out now and need something else, maybe more durable and good for all terrains!

Any ideas? Thanks so much in advance.

Have you tried custom-made orthopedic insoles, both for this and for everyday purposes?

Lovetotravel123 · 04/06/2024 21:01

Hoka work well for me.

pepperaunt · 04/06/2024 21:02

I also recommend Hoka. Recently been diagnosed with PF and I can’t believe how painful it is!

Do the exercise where you stretch the top of the foot - curl your toes under. It really helps.

I bought "of the shelf" supportive insoles online and have no problems now.

Chocolateteabag · 04/06/2024 21:12

I say go to a running shop and try some/ get their advice

Hoka / Altras etc all have a lot of cushioning but you'll find different shoes will feel better or worse so best to try a few different styles on

CheeseDreamsTonight · 04/06/2024 21:14

Barefoot shoes may be an option. I know it sounds mad but strengthening the foot muscles themselves is great for this.

It's awful isn't it luckily mine is much better, I just don't want to go back to how it use to be.

Mine really improved with walking a lot more using expensive insoles recommended here. I wore normal Nike AF 1s or flyknits but using these insoles.

No recommendation for you. Just popped on to say when I started running I had terrible PF. I bought top of the range running shoes (half price from outlet place) and haven't had an issue since. The right footwear makes a big difference.

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/06/2024 07:10

I buy orthotics from Boots and wear with any supportive trainers or walking boots.

twentysevendresses · 05/06/2024 07:19

@Realdeal1 I've been looking at these but wasn't sure on the sizing. I'm 7.5 UK shoe...would you say they are 'generous' so a 7 would do, or would it be better to size up to an 8? How did you find them size-wise? Thanks 👍

ototot · 05/06/2024 07:22

Buy a couple/3 decent running trainers (different brands but with arch support) and alternate them daily/every walk would work for me. ASICS and Brooks are good because Hokas can be very expensive

somethingwickedlivesnextdoor · 05/06/2024 07:26

My best shoes have been Skechers Arch Fit flip flops. I wear them all the time. So comfy!

ConsistentlyPeeved · 05/06/2024 09:58

I don't really have recommendations.. but I'd personally avoid Barefoot, they made my PF so much worse. I can no longer bear to have nothing on my feet, I'm in sliders/ slippers in the house and obviously shoes outside.
I've got some hunter hiking boots which I wear for work- but it's quite an outdoorsy job and they've been great. I know they're not the prettiest. I think someone's suggestion of insoles is a good idea.

@twentysevendresses hi, I wear an 8 myself and it's a perfect fit.

mollyfolk · 05/06/2024 10:32

I don’t know for running and walking but I bought a pair of Oofos slides for around the house and they have helped me so much - my feet are so much better already.

barefoot don’t work well for this. I used to love barefoot shoes but you need arch support with PF.

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 05/06/2024 10:42

If anyone thinking of getting Hoka - go up half a size.

I have the ones with the carbon fibre technology - but not for PF, I have arthritis in both big toe joints. These rock my foot forward without too much bending.

Beaakindd · 05/06/2024 17:53

Hi everyone. I've ordered two pairs of Hokas so I ca see what they're like! I've just tried them on. The Hoka Clifton are really comfy. The way you walk, your heel doesn't have any impact on the ground! The bondi ones came up too small. I'm thinking I'll keep the Cliftons.
