Foundation for over 50s

fiftiesskin · 01/06/2024 12:42

Just that really. I have seen ads on facebook for foundation for over 50s but I'm cautious about buying online, especially as I have very pale skin. Would rather try it out first or at least get a recommendation.

Can anyone recommend a good foundation for 50+ skin ( I am 51) that I can either buy in a department store or give me a solid recommendation for one I can buy online?

Many thanks

What is your skin like?

DialSquare · 01/06/2024 13:34

I'm 55 and love Armani Luminous Silk foundation. It makes my skin look so much better than it is. I also love the matching concealer.

keffie12 · 01/06/2024 13:50

I suggest you go to a store that has different makeup stands. Ask them for a sample to try at home.

The sample/s will give you the best colour shade to buy whatever you choose to use

Alternatively, I only use BB foundation now. It's extremely light and easy to put on. Available online as well as stores like Boots

Thanks, the women at the stalls in dept stores are all so young! I am not sure I am confident they are trained in foundation for older skin!

My skin is just pale really. Used to be oily but now drier. Could do with some coverage to even it out/ cover blemishes. Obviously got some lines and creasing now too.

All because they are young doesn't mean they are not trained in their product. They will know exactly what you need, and they will march you up. You say you are pale, are you cool toned, Warm toned or neutral?

SilverBranchGoldenPears · 01/06/2024 15:15

Following with interest as I’m in the same boat. I used to use Estée Lauder Lucidity but now my skin has in the last year lost some shine/glow/life. I may look at the Armani right away.

MissyB1 · 01/06/2024 15:21

I'm 56 and only use tinted moisturisers now. I find foundations are too heavy and drying on older skin. A tinted moisturiser that reflects light makes skin look fresher I think.

Gosh, I don't know. I had my colours done 30 years ago and I was a winter ( so blue / black based colours suit me). I think they have changed the categorising of the colours thing now though.

This thread might help too, OP.

A medium/full coverage foundation that doesn’t make me look caked in make up? http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/styleandd_beauty/5031170-a-mediumfull-coverage-foundation-that-doesnt-make-me-look-caked-in-make-up

quackorflap · 01/06/2024 17:14

Hi OP, I am later 20s but my mum loves it and is a bit older than you, we love Estée Lauder Futurist foundation

It's very natural and effortless to put on

For some reason it gives a 12 hour wear on my mum and not me, though, not sure why as I don't have oily skin!

Seems to work best for more mature skin

Sparkletastic · 01/06/2024 17:26

Erborian BB

keffie12 · 01/06/2024 18:34

@fiftfiftiesskin There age has nothing to do with it. You're feeling insecure as you navigate your 50s, I guess. Understandable, however, it is not necessary to be insecure.

They are beautician trained in makeup for all ages, types of skin etc.etc. They have to be, to be employed by the company.

The companies wouldn't take them on if they weren't trained fully.

I'm way past 50 and use them as do millions.

AceofPentacles · 01/06/2024 18:40

I use Erborian BB (plus tinted moisturiser on top if I'm going somewhere nice)

ASighMadeOfStone · 01/06/2024 18:44

Erborian BB or N7 Hydraluminous are my current holy grails. I'm very pale, dry skin, 58.
I am finishing off the Estée Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue mentioned above, but won't repurchase as the coverage isn't as good as the other 2 and only seems to last a couple of hours.

Whatshallabee · 01/06/2024 18:53

Maybelline Fit - good coverage but extremely light.

fiftiesskin · 01/06/2024 21:21

Thanks everyone, I’ll look into these : )

Similar age and colouring. I ditched foundation for tinted moisturiser to minimise creasing, etc. Love Eborian cc cream, or the bb cream if you do want something more foundation-like. Also IT Cosmetics nude glow is lovely too.

Erborian BB

Second this, I am 60 and it gives my skin a glow.

GerbilsForever24 · 01/06/2024 21:42

I am 48. Pale skin with a tendency to blotchiness as I have entered peri menopause. I have always liked both Bobbi brown and Mac but just couldn’t get it right the last year or so. A friend recommended Trinny and I have been so happy. I am using the bff foundation.

I had it colour matched at our local department store by a lovely young woman who completely understood my concerns and offered suggestions accordingly.

jackandy · 01/06/2024 21:48

I recently found this brilliant foundation after reading some posts on here. I have dry skin on cheeks but multiple blocked pores and blackheads on T zone. Am 49.

This foundation looks great and does not feel heavy but does great coverage.

I'm over 50 and don't think 'mature skin' is really a thing. There's not one homogeneous type of 'mature skin' that you acquire with age.

My skin is not dry- I still have oily skin and get blocked pores. I also have rosacea so need foundation with coverage- a tinted moisturiser wouldn't look better just because I'm mature because it wouldn't cover redness.

I like Nars Sheer Glow foundation- it has good coverage (is not sheer or glowy), good shades, is just a little bit luminous, and it lasts all day.

AuntieMarys · 01/06/2024 22:03

Estee Lauder Futurist...I'm 65 and am on my 3rd tube.

Citrusandginger · 01/06/2024 22:13

I use a light gradual fake tan on alternate days, then apply tinted moisturiser
Half an hour later. It's been a game changer since giving up double wear which had started to look really cakey.
