Mine are stubborn- I use the Kate Sommerville EradiKate cleanser every evening, use retinal at night and sunscreen in the am.

I was thinking of a hydra-facial but have heard on this site from posters that it didn't really do much for the filaments and blackheads- so I am lost because those treatments are v expensive.

Aside from the strips, what else can I do?
They're mostly on my nose and chin.

Any hacks?

One of those vacuum blackhead removers with the camera - you can get them for about £25 on amazon. It's also mildly addicting seeing all the crap coming out of your face!!

I got a really cheap face mask for men for removing blackheads, think it was 99p, it's a blue gel, dries after about 15 mins, then you pull it off. I was amazed how many it pulled out, much better than the strips.

Would appreciate a link to the blackhead remover with camera though! 😂

I suffer with sebaceous filaments too - black head treatments do nothing as they aren’t clogged pores as such, just visible ones.

I’ve recently started using an oil based cleanser as part of a double cleanse routine and I’m seeing some results in terms of them looking less obvious and smoother already. I have combination skin so have been wary of using oils but I was told oil attracts oil so using an oil cleanser draws out the oils in the pores. I then use a normal cleanser to remove the oil.

I don't know how to do a link from Amazon but just put in 'vacuum blackhead remover' and they'll come up! They look like this:

Glycolic acid

learieonthewildmoor · 01/06/2024 13:45

Those extractors can make sebaceous filaments and blackheads worse. They remove the oil from your face in an unbalanced way, and your skin can start to produce more oil to compensate.
I do a double cleanse with an oil based cleanser as a first cleanse. I use glycolic acid 3 times a week, and niacinamide serum every morning and oil free moisturiser. Cleared up my blackheads and sebaceous filaments in a very short time.

Rugby Acne Medication 10% 42.5g
Rugby Acne Treatment 10% 42.5 gm - Acne Treatment Benzoyl peroxide Spot Treatment targets pimples to help clear skin and prevent breakouts. This topical acne treatment gel is a maximum-strength acne spot treatment that contains 10% benzoyl peroxide, the most commonly prescribed acne medication by pharmacists. The fragrance-free face gel quickly gets to work by releasing benzoyl peroxide deep within the pores where pimples form, effectively treating acne breakouts and helping to prevent future breakouts.

I get mine from an American seller on eBay and bulk buy as it's cheaper that way.

do you just put this on the affected areas? or the whole face?

Dry cleansing at night with CeraVe oil to foam cleanser and a AHA/BHA or lactic acid toner before moisturiser.

learieonthewildmoor · 01/06/2024 15:42

I put the glycolic acid on my whole face and niacinamide on my chin, nose and cheeks.

datcherygrateful · 01/06/2024 19:06

ok so where would all this fit in?
In the morning I use Vit C, moisturiser and spf
At night I use Retinal and moisturiser.
I do this every night. I heard I can't mix so not sure how to incorporate glycolic and niacinamide

if you use glycolic acid three times a week- do you skip any retinol or retinal at night?

Use the niacinamide instead of vitamin c. I have sensitive skin and don’t use retinol. Glycolic acid three times a week at night plus the niacinamide is enough for me. I use birch sap serum the other nights.
I’m surprised that your blackheads are surviving retinol. According to the internet, you can use both retinol and glycolic acid, just alternate nightly.

Me too- But I am only on a mild one- Retinal A by Geek and Gorgeous A Game 5. So maybe not harsh enough?
