Trainers for a man who doesn't like trainers

DH needs some comfortable holiday shoes. He's tried shoes but they all seem to rub and thinks he needs trainers but really doesn't like the style. Doesn't mind converse but they're too narrow. Any suggestions?

What kind of footwear does he like?
There are so many different types of trainers, he'll probably find something he likes.

Skechers are very comfortable. Men's Footwear | Comfortable Shoes | SKECHERS UK and have trainers that don't look too athletic.

Merrell are meant to be good if you are planning to walk a lot. Men - Trainers | Merrell

Converse are more a fashion shoe.

If you want a stylish shoe, I'd look at spanish brands e.g. Men's shoes - Spring/Summer | Camper® United Kingdom

Allbirds!

Camper - they sell trainers and trainer-adjacent shoes (pelotas, peu) which come in more shoe-like colours like brown or black.

DP has a nice pair of Sketchers that are technically trainers but are a bit smarter. He got them in Sports Direct a couple of weeks ago.

What does he normally wear? What is his style? What age is he? There are multiple different styles of trainers, so I find it hard to believe he doesn't like any of them.

Mumof1andacat · 31/05/2024 12:52

If he's saying they rub then it's likely he needs wider trainers like sketcher or there is a company called fitville which make wider style trainers and shoes

qwertyqwertyqwertyqwerty · 31/05/2024 12:54

What type of shoes currently rub?

KirstenBlest · 31/05/2024 13:07

@WrinklesShminkles , I've already recommended them! Glad to hear my suggestions are also suggested.
I wouldn't recommend Skechers from a style POV but the people who wear by them wear them for a reason and they have lots of different styles. T

Others I would suggest - birkenstocks (love mine especially for holidays), new balance or asics for comfortable trainers (but not nike or adidas)

Brands like Hotter have some casual shoes Ivory / Tan | Oliver Trainers |Hotter UK that should be ok for holidays. Probably not 'S&B' but they look ok, good price and won't frighten any horses.

Men's Fashion Trainers | John Lewis & Partners

Maybe a look at fashion sites may give a better idea of what's current. I tend to like styles that are perennial.

I like this brand

Vans? Supergra?

whatageareyou · 31/05/2024 21:21

Thanks everyone. 50, English gent type style (suits and brogues, linen when on holidays)

I don't wear trainers either. Would he not be able to wear just a comfortable shoe? The DM soft leather shoes (1460 virginia, I think they're called) are comfortable straight out of the box for me. Also, a man I know wears mephisto shoes, I don't know the brand but he wears them for comfort.

Have a look somewhere like ECCO for smart but more comfortable shoes, perhaps.

Sounds like a deck shoe type of man
