Moisturiser recommendations (reasonably priced)

I am looking for a new moisturiser and would appreciate some recommendations please.

I’m 50, normal/combo skin, large pores in places but other than that no skin issues but I’d prefer anti-aging products.

I’ve been using Revolution Miracle Cream and Vit C Serum for about 3 months and I’m not impressed. My skin isn’t showing signs of a ‘miracle’ and they leave my skin feeling tacky and shiny. Also using Aldi Lacura healthy glow glycolic toner for about a year which has helped with the large pores. I previously used the Aldi Caviar day/night creams then they seemed to not suit my skin anymore.

I see that people recommend Cerave a lot but the range I see in Boots etc isn’t anti-aging.

Cerave is very good for the price and includes ceramides.
I'd get it and invest in a good night cream or serum to give extra benefits. KBeauty, especially via EBay or the original brand online stores may offer the best savings.

I believe the 'anti-aging' tag is a bit of a marketing ploy to extract money from us. No product actually anti-ages but some have stronger active ingredients than others. Cerave is a good product and should be a good investment - ELF is also a good skin care brand which is worth considering.

What is your budget?

Becomingolder · 31/05/2024 08:52

I like the inkey list peptide moisturiser

I've recently found Tiger Moon products, they are only available in Asda, and the retinol moisturiser is so lovely! They have a few different ranges, and everything is below a fiver. I've been using for about six months now and I'm pretty impressed.

I really like CeraVe and Cetaphil. I think anti aging products are mostly a big con.

I am 50 and started using Cerave about 6 months ago. The AM moisturising lotion contains ceramides and niacimide and spf 30 or 50 which is great. I have really noticed the difference in my skin.

The PM moisturising lotion contains hylauronic acid which is anto ages or you can also buy the pots of facial moisturiser which contains hylauronic acid (but no spf).

If you then feel you need more you can always add a retinol but build it up slowly.

For large pores, choose products with niacinamide and look into collagen and elastin.

A good exfoliator may also help.

My current skin faves:
Cerave Retinol serum for fine lines and wrinkles
Glow Hub Hydration Serum on wet/damp skin to maintain skin barrier and moisturise
Welleda Light Skin Food for moisturiser.

Cerave
I also use Aveeno " calm and restore" night cream
Their oat gel moisturiser is too light for me. I'm 59, and regularly told I don't look it!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 31/05/2024 16:34

Aveeno also do a facial serum which you apply under moisturiser
My skin can't take 'acids'

shivermetimbers77 · 31/05/2024 16:39

Cerave breaks me out, so I avoid that.. I like Bioderma moisturisers.

SPF is definitely anti-ageing. I always make sure my moisturiser has an SPF rating (or I add suntan lotion to it).

Who knows about the rest of the ingredients, though?!

The older I get (nearly 50) the more I'm convinced that it doesn't matter what you use as long as you use whatever you choose consistently therefore I tend to go for what smells nicest to me and doesn't make my face feel greasy. Currently using Nuxe Creme Fraiche and some Nivea face cream I got in a set for Christmas. Have used prescription trets, retinols, vitamin a, hyaluronic acids etc over the years and can't say there's been any magical glowing or glass like effect.

SPF 50 and lots of water are probably the only regular part of my routine. I can't commit to one particular brand, I'm a marketers dream.

Hyperion100 · 31/05/2024 16:50

The Ordinary products are great IMO.

Very well priced too.

UmberMoose · 17/06/2024 12:50

Cerave moisturiser is good. I use in the evening so my routine goes like this:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
Garnier spf
Evening:
Cerave moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel
