Hair loss

Anyone know anything about hair loss,

I'm not too sure if I should be worried or not? Seems like a lot of hair to be losing regularly, this was after simply running my hands through my hair after I had conditioned it 😬

Oof, that is a lot. Have you had an illness, or are you post-partum? Both can cause hair loss, as can stress.

Otherwise I might make a doctor's appointment.

Do you have long, thick (possibly Asian) hair? Do you comb or brush your hair every day? Does your hair appear to be thinning?

Some conditioners are suspected to cause hair loss.

How is your health, and diet, in general? Are there any any hormonal changes you might be going through (e.g. post partum, menopause, etc)?

It might be a good idea to see the GP just in case there's a medical cause.

The NHS link is a bit alarming, but there's probably some simple reason for the hair loss that's easy to put right.

If you've got long curly hair and don't brush it every day I don't think that's a huge amount tbh

That's what I was thinking. I shed a lot but each hair is fine but if I plaited it and didn't comb it through for a few days, it might be that much.

We can't really tell without knowing about your hair - if you've got fine hair in a pixie cut, that does seem like a lot. If you've got thick hair down to your tailbone, seems like not so much.

Illpickthatup · 31/05/2024 14:16

Depends how often you wash and brush your hair. I only wash mine once or twice a week so I seem to lose a lot in the shower. Someone who washes and brushes/styles their hair every day will probably lose about the same amount but because they're losing a little bit every day it's not as noticeable.

My hair used to come out like that. My GP suggested taking a silica supplement, which made a huge difference.

I wouldn’t muck around with supplements. By the time you know if they’re working or not, the hair loss usually worsens, or you’ve moved onto other things. Go see your GP. They will test your thyroid, vitamin d and iron levels and possibly check other things as well. If you don’t get results, ask for a referral to see a dermatologist who specialises in scalp conditions. This is particularly important if you are peri or post menopausal.
