Facewash reccomendations

I have a very bare-minimum approach to skincare. In my early 40s, night routine is wash face, retinol serum (LRP), eye cream (estee lauder), moisturiser (Rituals at the minute, but i'm not a huge fan). Morning is quick rinse with water, LRP Toleraine SPF30 (or anthelios SPF50 if its good weather), bit of make up, job done. Skin tends towards dry & sensitive.

At the minute my night facewash is Estee laduer cleansing gelee, and it does exactly what I want it to do - removes makeup, including eye makeup, and leaves skin squeaky clean with no residue, but not tight or drying, and doesn't irritate my eyes, which are sesitive. I got that in a gift pack with some other EL products, but can't justify the cost of re-buying it on its own.

I've also tried the Inky list oat cleansing balm which does much the same job, but leaves a film on my skin I don't like, and actually annoyed my eyes.

Double-cleansing is not something I'm going to have a patience

Is there a cheaper alternative facewash ?

Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser is great.

I’ve been loving Kiehls Ultra facial cleanser for the last few years. It reminds me of the sadly discontinued Johnson’s ph5.5 of my youth! About £17 I think which is not at all bad value and lasts a good long time.

Soap and Glory is what I have purchased as an alternative to my Clinique face wash.

I use L'Oreal Age Perfect Cleansing Milk https://www.boots.com/loreal-paris-age-perfect-cleansing-milk-200ml-10089414 with muslin cloths. I'm happy to spend on other skin products and Dermatica but not on something to clean my face. It works works and doesn't dry out my skin. In the morning under the shower I use whatever facewash I've bought...Simple, Nivea...nothing over about £7 usually.

Your bare minimum approach has about 5 more steps than mine 😆

I don't know the cleanser you use to compare, but I used micellar water. Not the watery one though, but a gel with a pump. Its also for sensitive skin. Mine is very dry, but don't find it dries my skin out.

Hah you're right !! I suppose compared to routines with 2 cleansers, an exfoliant, 3 serums and 2 moisturisers, I feel mine is reasonable :D

Love the idea of the liz earle hot cloth, might try that one, or the micellar gel one - i sometimes use the water one on my eyes, so maybe that one wouldn't blind me!

I really like CeraVe or Cetaphil

BigSkies2022 · 30/05/2024 15:02

Bioderma Atoderm shower oil for sensitive skin. I tried it after a recommendation by Fummi Fetto (British Vogue and Guardian beauty editor/columnist) for make-up removal and it's lovely. Doesn't foam or dry your skin out, (I find Cerave/Cetaphil too drying) and I can use it to remove eye make up as well (I use a hot flannel as I wear tubing mascara).

ASighMadeOfStone · 30/05/2024 15:04

Any old cleanser that you like is fine.
If you like a facial wash, then CeraVe is pretty much the holy grail. I like the oil cleanser one as my skin is dry.
Also love Liz Earle, Superdrug vitamin E but they're creams not washes.

MooGoo milk wash is brilliant. It's simple but extremely gentle on the face.
You can use it for the entire body but if I did that I'd be bankrupt lol

The bare minimum made me giggle I'll admit 😁 That's a lot of steps!

Have you tried Face Halo for cleansing? Use with just water and it's amazing
