Best shampoo and conditioner?

DrunkTinkerbell40s · 28/05/2024 19:02

So DS (age 16) is really into beauty products and cosmetics etc and has informed me that shampoo and conditioners are full of really harmful ingredients and chemicals.
I have now searched the internet to find what I should be using but struggling.

So, tell me what shampoo and conditioner you use please! And if you're health conscious and have researched for the safest most effective ones I'm super interested for recommendations and links pls! x

Avoid silicone

look for sick one free shampoo

it’ll take weeks to strip the chemicals from your hair.

Watch Lab Muffin Beauty on You Tube for fully informed views on "harmful chemicals" in beauty products.

This one covers amodimethicone (a silicone)

I think that might be a typo but it had me chuckling. Smile

You could look at the eco brands. Ethique shampoo bars are nice.

Your DS probably could find some.
You can wash your hair with olive soap.

Ethique shampoo bars are nice. Faith in Nature and a brand called Miniml make nice bottled shampoo and conditioners. If you have a Zero Waste or Health Food shop near you, you may be able to refill bottles and find shampoo bars there.

Going for eco friendly type brands may be your best bet as they will avoid ingredients like silicone (this makes hair look shiny and healthy but silicone just coats the hair in plastic which then gets added to our waste water in the form of micro plastics, not good for the environment or our food chains!)

Shampoo bars last longer than bottled shampoo but some soap based shampoo bars don't work so well in hard water areas. What hair type do you have?

I'm currently using g the Davines shampoo bar and find it really good and their conditioner.

I'm not sure where it stands on ingredients, I've not researched. But Kiehls do a really nice shampoo and a conditioner

Urtekram is good.

Agree with above.
"Harmful chemicals" and "clean" beauty are empty and meaningless phrases. The beauty industry is highly regulated and if an ingredient was "dangerous" it literally wouldn't be there. Point her in the direction of Lab Muffin as above, and also Nadine Baggott who often does an exposé on these empty claims.

If your daughter's hair is fine and flyaway, the best thing in the world for her will be products with silicones and sulphates.

If it's thick and curly or wavy, the best shampoo will be silicone and sulphate free. (Garnier hair food range and Herbal Essences both do various shampoos and conditioners with neither)

Personally I use olive oil soap for face, body and hair. It's very gentle, pure, and really improves my hair condition and skin complection. I don't use any conditioner as the soap conditions well

KirstenBlest · 29/05/2024 08:25

I mentioned Ethique because I have used it. Other brands might be just as good.
What I have tried from Faith in Nature has been great.
Same with the soap I named.

You can coconut oil for many things - cleanser, hair mask, moisturiser etc.
