Dylon on an expensive jumper

My 17 year old son bought himself a Stone Island jumper. It's a very light yellow colour. He did his own washing, took it out of the machine, and it has what looks like colour run marks all over it. Nothing else in the wash was damaged. I don't know what he's done, but he only bought it a few months ago.

I have tried vanish, alcohol, bicarb and colour run solution and I can't get it out. The jumper is ruined and he's very upset, as he saved and paid a lot of money for it.

I am considering getting a dylon black dye and trying to dye the jumper black, to hide the staining. I am so worried about completely wrecking it and making it worse (although he can't wear it in its current state) I was hoping to try and fix it and suprise him.

Does anyone have any idea if this would work? It's a good quality jumper, it just looks awful with the staining. I have never dyed anything before. Should I go for it?

Thank you!

Dyeing is ok but the stitching does not usually dye as it’s made of nylon these days… so if it has visible stitching anywhere it will stand out.

I think the result will depend on what the jumper is made from. If it's cotton/linen you will get a very good result. It doesn't work well on manmade fabrics like Nylon etc, which is why sometimes the stitching does not take up the dye.
