Where would you wear something like this?

I actually quite like the look of it, but can't think of where I would wear this vest... I definitely can't wear this to work, and it's not casual enough to wear on weekends etc. I wouldn't wear this to a restaurant or to a party.. So what's left? Any ideas?

Why not a restaurant or party? I think it looks fab, and could be dressed up a lot, or down a bit too. Is it you in the picture? I think it looks amazing!

MermaidEyes · 25/05/2024 18:40

To me that's definitely a night out/restaurant/party/club type top. The one shoulder looks a bit too dressy/sexy for casual daywear.

LlynTegid · 25/05/2024 18:56

I don't like it as a look, so offer no suggestions.

PrincessofWells · 25/05/2024 19:02

Great with jeans and sneakers, or layer it with a white shirt underneath. It would look good with denim shorts as well. I'd wear this as day wear if it's hot.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 25/05/2024 19:07

I don't like it either but I disagree it's not casual enough for general weekend wear.

You could wear it on a sunny day with (whatever the correct name is for baggy these days) jeans or wide legged linen trousers. I think that would look fine in a pub beer garden/ barbecue on a summer's day. I'm not sure why it couldn't be worn to a restaurant either. I think it needs cotton or linen wide legged trousers however, or maybe a full, longish cotton skirt, not a slinky shirt. Or PrincessOfWells' suggestions.

One shoulder waistcoat

Edited

If Trinny can wear sequins for day wear, I think we can all safely wear that waistcoat and look cool! It's 'how' you wear it

walkthroughtulips · 25/05/2024 19:22

I’d wear it for day drinks

JosephMerrick · 25/05/2024 19:24

Probably not one me.

ManilowBarry · 25/05/2024 19:42

A fancy dress party.

StoatofDisarray · 25/05/2024 20:09

I'd go with white linen trousers or similar and wear it out for a casual night out.

PoachedScrambledBoiledFried · 25/05/2024 20:13

I would wear a t-shirt underneath and jeans for casual, with a smart shirt underneath for work, and as is for evening.

Amiable · 25/05/2024 20:35

Wear with jeans, with a full maxi skirt, with wide leg trousers... wear it when and where and how you want

ZazieBeth · 25/05/2024 20:41

I had a garment similar to this back in the noighties. Except it was orange. I wore it over a navy top that had a print of an orange hummingbird feeding from a orange flower on the exposed shoulder.
So you could use it to frame something else IYSWIM.

GeorgeOrwellsTurningGrave · 26/05/2024 09:20

I love it! I'd wear it with wide legged trousers and trainers or a big ruffle skirt and DMs.

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 26/05/2024 11:19

I love this look! (And if that’s you in the photo you look great in it.)

I think the main thing is to think of it as a t shirt. Maybe your nicest, most expensive t shirt. You need to approach it as something casual and versatile - not as a dressy jacket with an arm cut off. For me the regularity with which I wore it would depend on whether I’d paid a Zara type price - in which case I might ‘throw it on’ for any informal day outside the house - or invested in something precious that I reserved for meeting colleagues or hanging out in fancier places.

I would never wear it over something else - that would be kind of missing the point in my opinion, and would make it hopelessly twee, but it would be fun to wear under a huge jacket, to play with proportions.

GiveYourHeadAWobble · 26/05/2024 12:20

I think it could be dressed down with wide leg slouchy jeans and DMs, trainers or Birkenstocks.
